Had a talk with my daughter tonight on the phone. She lives in a place called Mt Isa which is about 1500km NW of me. Its in what we call the outback here in Aust and they have some pretty good pig hunting there.

Anyway, she spoke with one of her husbands mates who is a shooter up there and asked if he would be prepared to organise a hunt for when I go up to visit the family. He said it would not be a problem. In fact he said he will be looking forward to it.

They have some pretty big pigs up that way and plenty of roos so I'm looking forward to a good hunt. Won't be going for a few months so I have plenty of time to get everything squared away and ready.

I'm looking forward to it like you wouldn't believe. Hopefully I can talk my missus into buying a digi cam before them so I can get some pics.

Cheers, Vince

OUTSTANDING!! Nothing like a family visit with a little shooting on the side. And caliber of choice would be.......??? Are Roos good to eat? Maybe a Roo Stew?

Roo meat is good to eat so long as you get the right piece. Some of it can be pretty tough. The tail makes a real nice soup or stew. Very Happy
Of course, like all game meat won from the wild you need to ensure it is free of parasites etc.

Calibre of choice......Weatherby Vanguard in 243 WIN with a 3.5-10 x 45 Nikko Stirling Platinum scope. Would have preferred a Leopold 3-9 x 40 but it was out of reach price wise for me.

I'm pretty keen to get my eldest granson out with me, but I'm not sure how his Mother will react to my idea. She is not a lover of firearms and isn't a lover of hunting.

For ideas on kangaroo cooking have a look at this site:

Gidday Jack. I'm in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia mate. I'm not on any other hunting forums or sites.

Leaving the ammo ain't so bad, at least you can buy more....but leaving the bolts behind (like I did) is a real pain in the butt. Nothing you can do about it.

Uhmm...Bolts, BOLTS....Did I mention don't forget the bolts? Not that it would happen ever again, right? Very Happy

Of course, if the better half were left at home, she could overnight them to you. or you could leave the key to your house and liquor cabinet to one of your mates, and he could ... Ahh, then again, maybe not... Wink Good hunting!

"BOLTS"!!! Not nuts and bolts, but "BOLTS" for rifles. Now that THAT's settled. Don't forget the "RIFLES" that the "BOLTS" fit...

Just a suggestion from a friend...

By The Way...Spears and knives have less moving parts to forget...

Gee thanks guys. Sad Good thing I have broad shoulders and can laugh at myself. Very Happy Laughing Very Happy Laughing

Thought about getting the daughter to drive them halfway and I'd meet her, but seein' as how we were only going for a couple of days it wasn't worth it. No way I will forget them again that's for sure !!

Hey ya Bushy, NO way in the world will I chase pigs with a spear and knife !! Them buggers bite back and as my mate says....that would be a bad thing. But then again you are right....nothing to leave behind. Very Happy
