I've been fortunate to have harvested two big bull elk in the past several years. I've got a plain Jane Browning Stainless Steel Stalker with a composite or fibreglass stock (black). It is a shooter, and I'd like to jazz it up a bit by inleting elk bugle teeth on the sides of the fore end. Which would require cutting off the top of the teeth flat, inletting the stock to conform with the tooth and glueing it in place. My wife already has ear rings, necklace and ring using elk ivory. This seems like a project I could and should do myself. The local jeweler wants $50 bucks for each tooth cut. Guess I just want to do it my-self. I need help on how to cut the tooth. All advice gratefully accepted. Freedyf

First off make sure that the stock isnt hollow inside... some stocks are. Next I guess you could carefully cut the tooth in half with some sort of saw, but I think I'd just grind off half of it carefully on a grinder until you reached the width of the tooth you want for the inletting.

Buddy of mine is starting an antler carving class for a bunch of local youth next month at a youth centre that I'm involved with, so I'm going to sit in and in a few weeks, maybe I'll have some expertise....on the other hand maybe they'll be referring to me as "one thumb" lol
