Not that I would have any location in which I could make use of such a rifle, but I would like to know what action it is built on, caliber, barrel length. Oh, and what your favorite long range bullet is and at what velocity.

Mate, I must congratulate you for your luck in shooting that far.

Myself, I could not even pull the trigger if I have a remote chance of a miss.
Most of my kills are within 100 meters. It is the stalk that make me feel like a hunter, not the distance of shot.

Although, I am quite sure that with my whisper could make a 2 - 3 inch
group at 500 meters on paper, I am not and will not shoot an animal at that distance.

Gelan

ok new to hunting keep in mind

why would you need to shoot that far? cant get close enough??

isnt it more work to pack out? especially in areas that dont allow motor vehicles????

in the market of my first rifle and want to know if its essential to have such a rifle.
confusing enough to pick a gun without enough info.

regards

how much does it weigh?? did i miss it in the specs?
instructors say the rifle seems to get heavier as you hike in further and further.
whats the total weight of pack, survival kit, gun. boots?

Keetoowah,
I would choose a rifle not over 7 lbs that is comfortalbe to shoot and of a caliber that you can find ammunition for no matter where you go. Smile

This gun weighs right at 29 pounds...

I have three places that I shoot this gun at for deer and all three places are open fields and the shooting is done from concrete benches. All three fields are long and narrow and each side of the fields are marked in 50 yard increments, starting at 600 yards and going out to the maximum distance...

Yes, I can get much closer to a deer as I also hunt with revolvers and routinely kill deer well under 50 yards...

I have the training, skills, equipment and shooting abilities to take deer at extended ranges and that's just something I like to do. And before someone asks, NO I have never wounded a deer or let one get away by shooting at long range. If there is even the slightest doubt in my mind, I will NOT pull the trigger...

I know of lots of guys that will shoot deer much further than what I will but, they have the greater distances to shoot and with much larger caliber guns....

vint2,

here is a gun that does not weigh over 7 pounds and you can buy ammo most anywhere for it.........30-30 Winchester!

Accuracy wise, shooting this gun loaded with 155 gr. Hornady A-MAX, it will consistently group around 3/4" for 3-shots at 100 yards and this gun has also taken it's fair share of deer and coyotes as well....

With the new 30-30 ammo this would not be a bad choice as you would have some variety in your uses,ie; varmints, deer, etc. Smile
