Well guys I got the shock of the month today, I thought I gained weight the last couple of weeks, looked like it, turns out I lost more weight and my stomic just flattened out some more and thats why it looked like it.
Anyways reason I decided to post about it is if any of you with granddaughters or daughters thinking about going on a diet tell them they don't work and you don't need to control every little bite of food that goes into you to lose weight or go on 30 minute workouts every day of the week ether.
I just cut ice cream (step one started in December), most pop (still have the occasional can or 2 a week I cut this in late January), extra snacking/filling my plate 3 times at dinner etc (cut these of those in February, still I eat more then most in one plate then most people like I've always done). Thats the 3 steps.
And from a kinda big 240 pounds in November when I decided I needed to do something, to my slightly more healthly 210 pounds thats all I did. No going to exercise all day long, no diets that count calories, no cutting out meat from my diet, no cutting out fruits and veggies, like all the "EXPERTS" claim you need to do just those 3 little things. Go figure.
So if they cant cut thouse out of their diets because they don't eat them well then they shouldn't diet.
PS. This didn't cut beer out of my diet! Beer is here to stay!

Elyboy,
I got spell check on Firefox and I use it generally may not have used it enough on this post
Anyways my GPA in college was 3.73 for the whole 4 terms and my lowest was 3.58 so I graduated with honors.

bad spelling doesn't show how smart a person is. I have really bad spelling since I can't hear all of the sounds due to a pre-lingual hearing lose. I made it out of grad school with a 3.81 and my seniors are still catching my spelling errors in class.

Bushmaster,
Spelling correctly is not "important" anymore. Its "content" (actual information presented) over "quality" (spelling & grammar) in schools I find.

My mother (if she were alive) probably wouldn't agree with you. Good grammar and spelling were very important to her. I am constantly being reminded by my wife that is she could see my spelling that she would "turn over in her grave"...But that isn't what I meant by "Too many teachers and not enough instructors".

Now days "teachers" seem to be into teaching their own doctrine and feel that is more important then teaching students to have an open mind. Instructors, on the other hand , just teach a subject with no doctrine. If you have a math instructor, you are taught math. If you have a mechanics instructor you will learn about machinery and not his/her view on how to fix the world.

Ah well there are still plenty of teachers that don't push too much their own views on the students luckily I only had a couple through my schooling that pushed their own views.

My wife is a teacher, and in her school, ALL of the students stand and say the Pledge of Allegiance every day.
Luckily, I'm not a teacher.
After I got through with my class, all of the kids would be saying "Stupid idiot liberals" at the end of the year.

Bushmaster,
Your posting reminds me of a friend of mine who, a post-secondary educator himself, was in an argument with his kid's teacher and prinicipal over something or another and the principal grew frustrated and demanded, apparently almost yelling "What exactly do you want for your children from the school system?"
My friend responded quietly, "Minimal trauma would be nice" and walked out. I always taught my kids that no matter what they were told or taught in school the most important thing they would ever learn is to think for themselves and always encouraged them by questioning their ideas and throwing ideas at them that they couldn't resist questioning. But then I'm kind of like the line from an old song "I know I could have me a million more friends, all I gotta change is my point of view"

I just finished my teaching program at the end of last month. One of the things they try to tell us is not to puch our views on the students. I've found it a thin line to walk on some subjects. I agree that not enough of the teachers are teaching them how to think, I asked an opinion question and the kids asked what the right answer was and when I asked them what they thought they had no idea how to answer. They are taught to the new state standards so they have to learn what is going to be on the test and not what they think about something.
One of my students asked why my tests were so hard and all I could do was heaven forbid I expect you to come to class and learn something, how dare I.
