Where can I get about a 2 quarts of this oil? The stuff with the silicone mixed in with it. My son Matt called me last night with a urgent request. He needs it for his heavy weapon (50 cal.) and his M-4. Seems that the stuff the regular army is giving them is freezing up on there weapons when there in the mountains regions of Afghanistan. He told me that his unit was on patrol and was hit hard in a mountain pass and his heavy weapon failed on him and when he went to his M-4 it was slow to operate in the cold climate. He told me that it happen to allot of his buddies weapons that night and when they returned to there base and reported the problem with the oil they where told to deal with it because its all they have for there weapons. He ask me to get the oil that I buy as surplus for my weapons is what he needs and I have done a internet search for it and can only find the 2 or 3 oz. bottles. He is going to be home for his down time late next month ( April )and I told him I would try to have it for him on his return trip. Just give me a lead to get it for him. I will try to get 2 of them. One for Matt and I am sure if he is having problems my son Gary is to so I will get 2 of them.

His Sargent told him that this is the stuff they need to keep this from happening to them.

I think you mean CLP Break Free ?? Its a cold weather lubricant but its still the current issue one so I'm not too sure.

I think 1895 has a link to a company that makes another good gun oil ment to work in very cold environments.

Dimitri is right. You can't go wrong with Break Free.

But I will also say this: gas operated weapons are the first to start acting up in extremely cold weather. I have had an FAL fail to cycle on me at -40F. And the FAL is one of the more reliable gas ops.

Wouldn't any liquid lube tend to thicken up when extremely cold? You hear about it in hunting guns frequently. Might a dry lubricant be better? Of course I don't know how well the dry lube would hold up under sustained firing as with an MG or any full auto.

You got a very good point, dry lubes may be better. Never used a dry lube before on my rifles and as you said I don't know ether if they'd work for a FA rifle or machine gun.

Thanks for the quick postings I am working on getting them some. I have had 2 guys in his unit call and ask me to get some for them to so its a all out thing for me right now. I will do what I can. And probable get it to them quicker.
