I have been pondering a winter project rifle based on the H+R Handi in .500 S+W for three years now. I finally found one and ordered it online today. Yup Davidson's strikes AGAIN! LOL!! I'd like to set it up with a low power shotgun type scope and a straight grip laminate stock with a really really good recoil pad. I found a company, Gunstocks, who makes a nice laminate stock. I like the look of their Timber Camo laminate.

For now I need to get all my reloading components and a set of dies.

I've thought of doing the same thing for a couple of years. It would be an awesome brush gun.

Especially if I cut the barrel down to 16.25"! Single shot handi rifles are short compared to bolt guns due to their much short receivers. With a 16.25" barrel it should real handi in the thick stuff.

A bud of mine got a handy in 44 mag, cut the barrel to 16 1/2 and remounted the front site. Put a 1.5x5 scope and cut the stock down a couple of inches. he can walk thru the swamp with his arm down and the barrel aint nowhere close to the ground. Already killed one 6pt with it. I'd love to have the 500 or a 45/70.
