What has your experience been with used firearms?
Here’s mine:
.22LR Browning Challenger
After many years of good service it stopped going “Bang†Browning replaced it with a BuckMark. Both were/are very accurate. The Buckmark is a keeper.
.357 Mag Ruger Blackhawk, stainless
Gave $225 and a Mec 650 I couldn’t sell. Didn’t know the basepin was bent when I got it. Ruger replaced it for free. Excellent condition. Great pistol, it’s a keeper.
.44 Mag Browning B92
Gift from Dad in the early to mid 80’s, he rarely shot it. Shoots great. Excellent condition. Will never let this one go.
.22-250 Savage 110E
Another gift from Dad. Ugly as sin. Shot great for a few years, then the barrel went south. Sold it and used the money to buy a used Ruger .257 Roberts.
.375Win Marlin 375
My first Marlin. Made in 1980. Excellent condition. Paid $350 but the deal included $45 worth of ammo and Redding dies worth $50. Two shots under 2†at 200 yards and I have the target in my cubicle at work to prove it. Actually, 1.68â€. A keeper.
.45-70 Marlin 1895SS
My second Marlin. Excellent condition. Bought it for $249.95 from a local dealer in 2002, made in 2000. Shoots great, a keeper.
.30-30 Marlin 336C
My latest Marlin. Made in 1989. Excellent condition. Paid $225. Deadly on clay pigeons at 200 yards. A keeper.
.308Win Reminton BDL
My latest acquisition. Made in 1975. Excellent condition. Paid $330. Shoots great. Will post a “one ragged hole†target when the photo gets approved. Definitely a keeper.
.257 Roberts Ruger M77
Acquired two years ago. Made in 1989. Excellent condition. Shoots great. A “one ragged hole†target is shown below. (Or the link if I can’t get the pic to display.) Purchased with the money from the Savage .22-250 plus some from the pocket. Paid $400 even and it included a Leupold M8 4x scope. Now sports a Leupold Vari-X III 4.5-14x I picked up used. Definitely a keeper.
The point is, there are some real bargains to be had out there. Keeping my fingers crossed, haven’t got a bad one yet!
Here’s the target from the .257 Roberts from last Saturday:

Hey, Coyote_ Hunter_ and Joe,
When buying used firearms ya' just got to be careful and know what to look for. 95% of my gun purchases have been used… the other 5% new.

The majority of firearms in which I have interest are no longer made. So, the search is for various used makes and models. The exception is Ruger which, IMO, continues to improve their firearms.

Well in all honesty I only got 2 firearms a 870 Remington with a rifled barrel which is new. And I got a FN49 which is "surplus".
Both are good guns. Next purchase will be a M700 I am thinking new or old ?? Same to me I love the M700 action and its benifits of Push Feed.

I bought a used Wincherster Model 70 last year from my favorite gun shop chambered in a 7mm Rem Mag. with a synthetic stock and a boss on the barrel the rifle shoots great, I took a nice nine point buck and a doe with it this last November. It did take a while to get all the copper fouling out of it , but it wasn't nothing that a little sweets didn't take care of. I would say as long as you look a gun over good you would be OK, and if it was a very high priced gun I would probably ask if I could shoot it first. The gun shop I buy from pretty well stands behind everything he sells too, including his used rifles so that helps me feel a little more comfortable about buying used guns from him.
I also bought a bolt action 22 CZ used that I have had great luck with.

Used Guns,
Ruger SRH 44 MAGNUM. Great Gun super deal. $399.00 including scope.
Ruger MKII pistol 22 LR. needed cleaning $ 225.00
Savage 110 .270 rebarreled to 338-06 $ 250.00
Taurus 66 .357 Magnum just Ok $125.00
Winchester model 94 30-30 been hunting with it since 1983 $225.00
Mossberg 835 Ok Gun $225.00
Would I buy used again? Yes. Do I look real hard before I buy ? Yes.
The Taurus and Mossberg were a little dissapointing. The Mossberg I can hit with very well. But It doesn't like repeated shots of 3 1/2 inch shells. The Taurus well it was cheap enough.

Almost all my gun purchases have been new except for a few that were used. I've been lucky and got good deals on the used and they have shot very good as well.

My Dad owns a gun shop. so it makes it too easy to buy used guns. It's nice to shoot them before I buy.
