next week i am heading out to the range with my father-in-law to sight in my .222 and then try out my first reloads that I finished tonight. I am stoked and hope i get some good results. Gonna play around with the 10-22's also. I may even take my shotgun with me to check my patern. Wish I had a chrono so I could check my reloads for my .222 though.

.222 is one of those rounds thats hard to stuff up.
Light recoil and inherently accurate. My 788 rem doesnt group over 1.5" regardless of what I feed it, usually a lot under an inch if I've got the right load and do my bit, and thats with the standard american lawyer driven trigger.

What load did you end up using?

What are you saying about your trigger? Is it good or bad?
Have you worked on the locking lugs at all on your rifle?
I have a Rem788 carbine in 308 built in 1972 B sries serial number and the trigger is great. I think is must be about 3-4 lbs but I haven't tested it yet.
The only modifications that I have done to my 788 is to free float the barrel; which is 19" long.

"Lawyer trigger" is a pull so heavy that there is little chance the gun will ever go off...

Thats the one, at least its crisp, but jeeeeeeezus its heavy.
It takes a deliberate act of will to pull the trigger without pullling the muzzle off target, just as well the 788 is an accurate rifle to begin with.

I have never had reason to complain about my savage either. It may not be purdy gun but it sure shoots. I even killed my first buck with it. I took it out this summer a bit and it shot great with factory ammo to.
