I have been watching and listening to the various responses to the incident in Texas. I feel bad for the victim and the Vice President. Perhaps I am most appalled at the attempted humor and cheap jokes on TV and radio. Somehow, I fail to see the humor. It reminds me of the home video shows where folks end up going to the ER and the audience laughs its head off. Too bad. Just the idle thoughts of an idle fellow. All the best...

Yup I agree.

Its hard to cast judgement without being there. The victim could have come up behind them in thick brush... it could have been windy / hard to hear etc etc.

I believe it was an accident but its a good reminder for everyone that it can happen to ANYONE so gun safety always the first thing to keep in mind.

Very Happy Well........I'd rather go hunting with Dick Cheney, than riding with Ted Kennedy! At least Cheney would stop and make sure you're OK. Kennedy.........just a waste of good air. Got no use for him. Mad

Gil, I have to agree with you. Its a terrible incident for sure, accident or otherwise. Another consideration is what the spin-off is likely to be for firearms owners. Will this incident "create" an "anti" in high places??

Dallan is correct...without being there, only two people know for sure what happened, and why, and the likely hood of the general public ever hearing the complete truth is remote.

You will never stop comedians from grabbing an opportunity with both hands and running with it....just shows the mentality of those that do.

Cheers, Vince

Dallan, I'm going to step out and give an oppinion.
I have a hard time with the word and how often it is used: accident.
There are many cases where there has been unfortunate poor judgement. I am not casting great despersions on our VP....I would go hunting with him anytime. But in every hunting "accident" if someone or more than someone had used better judgement the incident would not have happened. I really tire of people say "well, it was an accident, I didn't see him". Sorry, they spend I lot of time in "hunter safety" classes stressing that very point. Accident seems to say "it could not have been avoided" and I can not buy into that. I have made many bad judgement mistakes. But I know it was my bad judgement/poor decision. Ok, I'm done.

Which one of the four would you rather do?

1. Go bird hunting with Dick Cheney

2. Go swimming with Ted Kennedy

3. Let your teenage daughter go on an outing with Bill Clinton

4. Let Hillary make your health care arrangements

I have to argue semantics here. An "unaviodable accident" describes something that could not be stopped or averted. Just a plain old accident is something that through mistake or fault, could have been avoided, but was not. The only other option would be to say that the VP shot his friend intentionally.

Obviously, this was an accident. Even though one or more persons did not exercise proper safety procedures, no one did so intentionally.

I take on board all you guys say about this, but I'd still like your VP to take Tony Blair out............................... in more ways than one!
Sorry............

I bet the Democrats will be eating this up upon election time with stiffer gun laws and rights taken away with naive Americans Sad

It was a accident and they happen no one means to shoot a good friend or family member on a hunt. Things happen no matter how much you fallow the safety rules to the letter at one point in your life your going to mess up no point blowing it out of perportion Smile

Mike,

I've got to say number 1 myself. Smile That 3rd one wouldnt happen if I had a daughter unless hell froze over. Evil or Very Mad

Alright, so I'm a crankaty old bastard. Mike I agree with you. I just feel like sometimes people use the word as if it completely excuses a mistake or poor judgement. I know, I know, damn-it, it happens. Like I said I would go hunting any time with the VP......and be very honored at the opportunity. I was in a 4 car accident last year.......I was the last in line. No accident! I leaned over to get my coffee and someone pulled infront of the car 3 up from me. I didn't stop in time and didn't have enough distance. I agree accident but only because I used poor judgement and took my eyes off the road.
Yea, I'm just a crankaty old bastard and can't get my words out right.

Just think...If it were you or I you would have read about it at the bottom of page three of your local news paper...It happened and the Vice President was in the wrong for not insuring he knew where everyone was at and knowing his target and the backstop...And rightfully so, he admitted it...END OF SUBJECT!!!

Screw the damned liberals...

By The Way...There is no such thing as an accident...Only "Cause and Effect"..."Accidents" are an act of God...!!!

Aren't all accidents avoidable. I mean if everthing was done to avoid an accident then there would be no accident, right. They do happen but someone or something is at fault. JMHO

1895sshhsshh...Did you even read my last post? I already said that...There is no such thing as an accident...If a valve suddenly starts gushing crude oil it means that maintenance didn't inspect that valve and make necessary repairs before it let go...If you load a case and forget to check it for powder drop and you seat a bullet you get a squib...Is that an accident or was it "Cause and Effect"? You didn't inspect the case to insure that it had powder in it before you seated the bullet (The cause). A squib (The effect). Carelessness? Yes! Accident? NO...!!

MmmMmmm Whiskey good tonight....I'm in fine fiddle...
