So yesterday I went to the Charlotte gun show. About a bazillion others folks did too, once we got there it took about three hours to park and get through the door, and then to make matters worse, no Pumpkinslinger when I needed him the most, his level handedness and gun knowledge.
So I am going back and forth between three booths looking at a beautiful Browning $685, an impressive T/C Icon $465, and a Savage Axis $240 all .308 caliber. As I said it was a tad crowded, ( I think a lot of folks think Barry is gonna get re-elected ), the booths were very far apart, it's is hard enough for me to walk let alone fight my way through a massive crowd, it's hot I'm sweatin' my bu-- off and getting a little angry, mostly at myself for wanting to spend some money.
So I broke two of my rules, don't but on a whim, do your research, and don't buy rifle scope combos. I was unprepared to make a decent decision and let my pocketbook do the talking.
So I bought the Axis with a Bushnell Sharpshooter 3X9 scope.
And now that I have had time to look up the rifles on the web I wish I had bought the T/C, that was a great price on what looked like a fine rifle.
Oh well, we will see how it works.

Well I myself have never shot the Savage axis in any caliber however I have heard good things about it. It is a great entry level gun and others have made some minor upgrades and made them very nice. Savage makes a good and accurate gun out of the box so I would say that you have a good gun with the potential to be a great gun. I hope it works out for you and I would like to hear what you think of it. I am considering getting one myself as the price is good and Savage has made a name for themselves lately on there out of the box accuracy. Good luck.

The axis is going for around the 350$ mark here and I have a couple of buddies who have them and they are like tlo says good shooters right out of the box.

I have the Axis in 223 and just love it. Mine had a terrible trigger on it. But from what i've read this is not always the case, people are saying good things about them. I swapped mine for a rifle basix trigger.
Les for a cheap gun I think you'll be happy

its a cheaper purchase price and hopefully as the others have said be a good shooter for you. if its not quite up to your expectations it will probably still be a great brush gun that you can knock around and not feel too guilty doing it. its a good thing to have at least one mongrel in the kennels/stable.

Shoot, use, enjoy
Save your remorse for something remorseful [not a new gun]
T/C's are 3x that price here

I will tell you what, if you want talk about remorse i made a huge mistake sometime back with a gun I had purchased. I bought a Savage model 11 in .243 in 06 for what the axis is going for now. The problem I see here is that the gun is actually a lot nicer and to purchase that grade of gun now it is a lot more. Now the reason I am sick over the situation is because I took the gun out and had a lot of troubles getting it sighted in to my satisfactory. Instead of making some changes to the gun to improve it I just traded it away for a couple other guns. I was not happy with on of the others I got and sold it. Now I wish I had that .243 still as I think I could have made a great rifle for my daughter out of it.

I can't ever remember having remorse for a gun I bought. I have however experienced a lot of remorse for guns I've sold.
Enjoy your new rifle!
