I will be keeping an eye out to be sure,
and Im not known for being diplomatic in fact Ive been called as subtle as a sledgehammer more than once. any greenie removing my traps would have to be a brain dead dork as Im trapping our worst predators for them!!!
I wish you fellas could see the wee fantails following me around while I do my traps. I have even had them land on my shotgun barrel.

greenie ... brain dead dork
brain dead dork ... greenie

Elvis,
what the devil is a stoat and how do you snavel something?
Looks like a cross between a fox and a weasel and by the marks on its neck it looks like you used a double jaw trap on the "monster".

stoats are mustalids they are about 1lb in weight weasels are similar in colour but smaller and ferrets are larger and different coloured.
snavel= catch=get a hold of.
I will have to get a picture of the trap itself the victim looks like a foxy stuck under a watergrate like what you see in the gutters on roadsides.

My brother and I are heading to our hunting/fishing/trapping camp on the 12th of October.
We will hunt moose for a couple of days until October 14th when the legal hunting season ends.
From the 18th of October onward it will be legal to trap, so trapping we will be doing until around the 27th of November.
When the snow gets to be three feet deep we come out of the woods in a convoy.
We are four groups of trapper each group has his own camp and his own exclusive trapping territory. These territories are adjacent to each other and we have a hollow stump in a central position that serves as a mail box where we can leave a message every time we go by it. That way we can keep an eye on each other and bring help if need be.
Every now and then we will invite the other trappers for supper at our camp just to keep track of the latest news such as ‘Is Obama still president?
Our exclusive trapping territory measures 335 square km (about 130 square miles).
I will bring a camera along and take pictures to share with you

eeyouelder, to say I'm jealous is an understatement mate...you are doing something I would dearly love to be able to experience.

I take it you live off the land whilst trapping? If not, do you carry sufficient rations in with you, or head out every now and again to stock up in town?

Good luck with your trapping mate, and I look forward to seeing the pics.

Cheers, Vince

I went trapping a couple of times with my late father-in-law. Once we spent a week in a wall tent that had been sodded in for the winter with a real door and a stove. Mostly mink and otter with the occasional fox. His best pelt that year was a lynx in prime condition. To watch hime skin that out so carefully was something to behold.

Hello Vince,
We carry in enough non-perishable supplies during the summer while on fishing trips, but fresh goods (such as milk, bread, tomatoes, scotch and beer etc.) do not last, so we invite some good friends that like to come to camp for a weekend of small game hunting. The price to pay for that privilege is that they must bring in fresh supplies. The satellite phone is handy for us to place our order for what we are running low on, and of course to check-in with the Mrs. every now an than.
Gasoline, stove oil and propane are brought in during the summer expeditions.
We do eat some of the game we catch such as ruffed grouse, hare, beavers, and bear but we need vegetables to go with that. If we are lucky we will have some moose steak. We will never go hungry but my brother likes his eggs benedict in the morning, so fresh eggs are another must that the friends must bring.
I have been retired since 1987 and now at 80 years old, I have only a few years to go, so I am taking every opportunity to go fishing, hunting and trapping, as long as it’s in the bush. I am lucky to have a brother with the same goals in life as mine and we get along together fine.
Also I am not as sprightly as when I was 18 years old but I do get the job done (slower but well done). Now we use ATV’s, at 18 we used our legs to get around.

We usually get up at 06h00 have breakfast and get on the ATV and ride down the trap line. We have three different ones, so it takes three days to get around all the traps. We are usually back at camp at 16h00 and after tea break it’s skinning time till supper, than skin again till 21h00, that is hot toddy time and bed.
Note: There is no need to sing me a bedtime song I am usually gone the minute I hit the sheets.

hope you like instant mash potatoes, saveloys , dehy veges and instant noodles??? because the rest of the pack will be needed for beer... although a bottle or 2 of spirits and a soda stream machine would weigh less....

SODA STREAM!!! Sip the spirits straight mate. As for vegies...if they are edible, then they are adequate. Very Happy Laughing Laughing
