I heard a stat that the number of guns is up but the number of households with a gun is down to about 37 %. Those who already have guns are gunning up, not bringing new into the fold.

I don't know if I totally buy that. I know people who never had a gun who are buying now. And in the news they were saying that in the areas around New Town alone, new gun ownership sales were up around 50% after the shootings. It might not be up a lot, but Id bet its up. But polls and media is for propaganda, and if the Gov wants the people to perceive that things are swaying more anti gun , then that is what the polls and media will tell us.
Just this morning on NPR news they were saying that there is a higher percentage of anti gun - pro illegal immigration people than ever in America. I just cant buy that either. But, I could be wrong.

Ditto... the number of women alone that are purchasing guns for themselves is rising rapidly.

I see "polls" saying that more people support gun control but I sure can't seem to find those people. Of course I saw some politician quote a "poll" that said that NRA members support more gun control. The NRA did a poll of its members and proved him a liar but I didn't see that in the main stream media.

The Oregon/Utah concealed carry permit class that my wife and I attended was close to 50% new gun owners.... I would say that was about right across the nation.
I think people on both sides of the conservative/liberal fence are waking up to what the government is trying to do. Some of those who are publicly against guns are even privately buying them.
