I came across this picture of 4 12g shotguns. All rather interesting looking guns...rather curious about the bottom one though...most unusual.

I'd say it's a Hopkins and Allen falling block or something in that realm. Looks like a Winchester 1885 low wall too. HHhmmmm...

That's
my
bid

Hmmmmmmm is right. The hammer is high and the forestock pinned. Are you sure it is a 12 guage and not a smoothbore rifle? I looked through my antique firearms book and found some old British elephant guns that looked simliar but they had recurves/spurs on the trigger guard for opening.

I'd say that's not a pin but a cross bolt and it looks to be Swiss or German. They used cross bolts that had metal washers around them shaped in such a way as to not be able to spin (like a teardrop or in this case sort of a chevron). That's a tough one, I can't find any shotguns that look like that. Trigger guard, forestock....could be a converted falling block. Forestocks for shotguns seem to usually (on antiques) be shaped into a Schnabel or a wedge blending into the barrel, not rounded like this one, that's why I think it could be a converted rifle. I can't find anything like it.

Hmm a Chicopee style action shotgun.
Pretty rare indeed.

Here's how it's attached, not a pin but a cross bolt. If you blow up the photos, especially the first one, you can see the same escutcheon design as in this photo. It has two little wings and a screw head.

The pinned barrel has an elongated escutcheon
