I carry my Kahr K9 most of the time. At my full-time job concealment is a priority. At my part -time job (at a gun store) I have a .40 S&W most of the time. On weekends I have the SR1911 most of the time. And when I feel like open carry or out in the woods, I have my 44 Mag Vaquero.

Aloysius,
I have been talking about a 45/410 derringer that I use as a backup. This is a 45 Colt derringer with a deep chamber for 410 shotshells. I would not fire a 45 Colt out of a 410 shotgun. I might fire a brass 410 case with a 45 bullet from my derringer if I can work out the load. There will be enough space in the case that I might consider some slower powder to get the velocity up without excessive pressure. I am sure that the gun would easily become a grenade with more pressure than the 14000 PSI of a standard load. I can't use a real slow powder because they require pressure to burn properly. At this point it is only an idea and it will stay that way unless I can do it safely. John didn't have any problems with patterns in his 410 or when he used the 410 adapter in his 12 gauge. We both use slugs in our 45/410 derringers because they give the best groups. I am just trying to think of a way to get higher velocities than 600 fps accurately using a 250 grain bullet from my 3" derringer.

Thanks.
But in my opinion: slow powder and short barrel... maybe it produces enough fireworks to blind the opponent till you can get closer...

And recently I started doing some tests with the .410 using brass of a 9,3x74 R. Looks promishing. I will also try .303 Br and 8x77 JRS brass as they seem to fit in the .410 chamber better than a .45 LC round. Now I'm still using black powder, but Trail Boss and H110 are in my mind. I tried to glue a short piece of rope in the bottom of a .38 BP-caliber round ball and a few .355 lead 9 mm bullets to get it stabilized during flight (smooth bore doesn't give twist). So far not so good results. Also thinking of using 2 or 3 of these pure lead .38 caliber round balls. Big chance at least 1 of the 3 will hit the target...
A .410 can give a lot of fun (and it's a real challenge to try for a decent 100 yard group).

as for the thread: you see 9 mm balls don't have to come out of a 9 mm pistol Smile
and when I would be allowed to carry, I don't think my GP Silverchrome would be the first choise. I'd probably take the S&W 586 with 4" barrel and I might consider an FN 1910 or 1920 in 7,65 (or your .32 ACP).

My mate and I never had any luck using round ball "slugs" in either the 20g or 12g...no accuracy at all. I haven't tried .410 slug through my Gauge Mates chamber inserts for the 12g, but with shot they pattern the same as my mate's .410 shotgun.

Best powder I've found by far for the .410 cartridge is Alliant 410. It's slower than Trail boss by a fair bit, and it falls into the start of the Magnum Pistol powders as far as burn rate goes (#66 on the table below), but it's a great powder.

My next carry gun will be a Ruger Vaquero .44 Mag with a 3.75" barrel and bird's bead grip. Sitting on layaway right now.

I had no idea that Ruger was selling plasma weapons! It appears to be a short range plasma charge but it should do the job if the perp in within ten yards.

It should be something like the 40 S&W when loaded with Hornady Critical Defense .44 Specials. But peg the awesome meter. Now to find someone who will build a nice pancake/belt slide style concealment holster for me.

Did I say that I have a piece of Gaboon ebony that is just big enough for one more set of grips? I've had it for about 25 years, saving it for just the right gun. I might have found the right gun.
