Thanks Slim. I can understand why it is so painful now.

Vince,

How long are they going to keep you as a patient? You cannot stay there forever so I trust they give you some good mews soon. All the best...

I’m in the Rehab ward now mate, and they believe I should be out of here next weekend - 4 or 5 days if all goes well. Some older people have been in here for over a month.

Those older folks are staying for the food and quiet. They have spouses at home and have to work to eat. When you go home you will be spoiled and catered to... for about a month. Wink

You have to remember to to extend your work to the pain but not try to work through the pain. That can cause slower healing. They had to drill holes in your leg to put the pieces into and it takes time for the bone to heal.
When it does heal it will be stronger than ever before because of the callus that grows over.

Well, I think I may have turned a corner with my knee. The pain is reduced significantly and the swelling is very slowly receding. It’s still painful to walk, even with crutches, but not as bad as it has been. I think it’s fast approaching the time when I should man up and stop being a sook.

I think a few more days of rehab will see me out of here and back home where I can relax easier.

Well, I turned that corner yesterday...felt like a million $...then I went to the Physio Gym. Of course, because I felt pretty good, I hooked in and worked hard through the exercises. An hour later I realised my mistake, I’d doubled back through the corner I’d turned...been in agony ever since. Plenty of ice, and Endone and I could sorta relax a bit. The pain has persisted right through yesterday and last night though. More Endone this morning should help. I think I’ll go back to being a bit of a sook and not push through the exercises like I did...just do the bare minimum.

Best news is the Dr said I can go home Saturday (two days time).

They haven't pulled the stitches out yet have they Vince, or are they the disolvable type.
I thought the exercise was to get things moving and flexible and prevent scar tissue.
This early on its easy to find the limit.
Undone, wonderful stuff eh.

No stitches Pete...it’s all glued together apparently. The exercises have a twofold purpose...to gently get the knee moving again and reduce swelling after all the trauma of the operation...and wake up sleepy muscles that have not been working properly because of the limping gait af the leg with the bung knee; apparently they tend to shorten a bit because of a reduced gait.

Endone is wonderful, although like all opiates, they tend to “bog up the system”, requiring the use of mild laxatives.
