Elvis,
Where I will be building the basement will be poured over the basalt rock or on seismic isolators that are anchored to the basalt. I am tending toward isolators but it will only make a difference with M8 and stronger quakes. Well above any expected quakes and the house and basement are spec'd out at M8 to 8.5 with only cosmetic damage.

Now that has to be taken with a bit of skepticism: It must be placed at least 50 yards from any fault and releveling will be necessary if close to a fold or slip fault. All the geo study information I have says there are no faults or activity in the last 5000 years. The county has no building codes for residential single dwelling homes.

oh how WONDERFUL that would be...its the building codes and councils endlessly clipping the ticket that is the reason we have such a large housing shortage and homeless issues....so many renting and rents keep going up up up.....

Latitude first, then Longitude. Should be a world-wide standard. Now whether the N/S is a prefix or a suffix or they use -/+ instead is anyone's guess

The standard is the other way round: "along the corridor, then up the stairs" was the memory jogger we were taught when plotting anything from a camp site to an airstrike.

it is a wonder we can even work together.

I learned more about the Navy when I switched to the Air Force. I understood then why the Navy flight procedures were why they were. Don't get me stated ... in the Navy, the signal to execute a command was a head nod. Same for the Air Force. However, Navy's head nod was aft into the headrest with your eyes out. In the Air Force it was head forward. It took me 2 years of flying before I broke the code on that one. I always thought the pilot was checking his cockpit instruments before starting. No wonder I was always late. It gets worse from there. Almost everything was the opposite.

Gotten much better over the years with all the Joint Operations.

Yep, SOP vary greatly between organisations, and even within the same organisation. In the Army, I found that there were a basic set of SOP, but as you devolved down to Brigade, Unit, Sub Unit and Squad groups there were always differences between the way things were done and signalled. Very confusing, with the potential for problems.

downunder its definately a 4x2

Do you guys always use the bigger number first? ie: 6x2, 8x2 etc? Nothing wrong with it, just seems odd as here in the states we go the other way, 2x4's, 4x6's, 2x12s... 4x8 plywood etc etc.

I guess we do it the same as with antlers... buck was a 2x3, 4x5, 6x8 etc... lol

They get called 4x2's here in the UK, which also happens to be cockney rhyming slang for Jews (& not meant in an offensive way).
