Maybe a look at some of the Reflex or Red Dot sights might be an option mate, either that or a scope with very fine crosshairs.

Dodgy eyesight…sounds like you’ve reached that age where eyesight goes ‘south’ mate. You more than likely are going to need ‘eye crutches’…glasses. My warning sign was not having long enough arms to read easily. Now I wear bifocals to read and a distance grind above that for watching TV and driving. Spectacles can be a real pain in the butt, but it beats not being able to see properly. I’m 73 now and have the start of cataracts that will need sorting out in the not too distant future.

I can relate to the eye sight thing....TRY your glasses,even your elcheapho reading glasses with scope....the difference is..well eye opening.

Dallan, have you looked at prism sights? 1x, illuminated reticles. I've been putting them on pistol caliber carbines and like them. For example:

I've actually noticed and done that. It does help... unfortunately I didnt have time to even think about. Buck stepped out and I threw up the scope and didnt have the detail to make a shot and quickly ranged him at 160, he was moving up and away so I rushed to close the distance while he went behind some brush. I got to 94'ish yards when he came out broadside and let'er rip. This was at 9,000ft elevation and he was headed to the ridge top another 1200ft higher, crazy steep and loose gravel terrain to try and walk on.

I plan to try some 4x readers soon to see how much the amplify the image, math says that should be 2x, although it will magnify the crosshairs as well, but hey it cant hurt.

Also, i know they make those 3x magnifiers for AR platform guns that sit behind a 1x scope giving you magnification... technically that would be still legal according to how they wrote our laws. The scope isnt magnifying and the magnifier isnt a scope. Nothing in the rule mentions a combination of the two ... ROFL

As for the Prism scopes, I'll take a look... I'm generally not a fan of "glowy" reticles or dots, my shooting eye astigmatism usually makes them overly blurry.

Prisms with adjustable diopter tend to be not bad for astigmatism as they are using etched reticles like a traditional scope not a floating dot.

My astigmatism is a little annoying with red dots like my Aimpoint T2. Prescription glasses help, but they are costly and I lose them often, polarized sunglasses do the job and they are like $40.

The prism sights I'm talking about have an etched reticle that can be illuminated if you want to. I have a problem with red dots flaring too. The prism sight is a lot clearer for me. Also, you still have a functioning sight if the battery dies.
