Just because DallanC commented on my decoy. This was a bit of a project last year...I got bored and decided my decoys looked to tin soldier like....so as the mad queen said " off with her head" out came hand saw, then soldering iron and some bits of junk plastic.

Looks fine to me. A duck flying past at Mach-Jesus in a storm with a big tailwind certainly wont notice anything.
Never really thought about it, but I didn't realize how wide ranging Mallard Ducks are.

trouble is....we normally get beautiful weather for sanbathing on opening weekend, and by 10;00AM a wary mallard may circle our spread half a dozen times deciding if they will commit and land, usually on last pass around just as they getting set to land someone on other side of lake will fire a barrage and that will be last we see of Daisy and Donald.... so I like to try really hard to get them to commit early on,our problems get compounded if lake level is low, which we seem to get four our of five years. we end up trying to hide in hole dug in the mud Vs sitting amoung the willow trees on waters edge.
but its all fun and games. I usually spend lots of time and fuel zooming around finding ducks camped up on shore and sending them on thier way to hopefully land in someones decoys belly up. when lake is full life is just soo much easier lol
