Vortex makes good glass. I have their Razor spotter and its very very good. In most reviews the Razor always comes in 3rd, they usually say something like "fractionally less sharp than a Swarovski" ... which is amazing considering its half the cost!

I bought a Vortex scope to put on my muzzleloader when the new Nikon started loosing zero. It worked fine.

Dallan, doesn't the Nikon have a lifetime guarantee?

You are spot on Dallan! I received my rifle a few days before I left for Regina and my mom's funeral and rolled 10 rounds up and this rifle shoots soft! I used 168g SRA tmk 40 gr IMR 3031 NEW Rem cases CCI 200 primers. I am looking forward to developing my loads for this rifle when I get home.

Well I have had this rig out to get some stats and check loads. I can't say that my shooting has been that great. But, I do manage to get approx 1.25 in groups at 100 yds. My bullet speeds haven't been as high as i thought they would be only in the 2400 to 2500 fps range for 42-44 gr Varget. My 46 gr varget loads seemed and I mean seemed to be all over the place but there was no signs of overpressure on any of the loads. In fact, the loads in the 40 gr range for bothe varget and 3031 were on the side of too light for some reason.

The ADI Handloaders book lists 41 - 45.5 gun of 2208 (Varget) with a velocity of 2730 fps.

I would increase the load in steps of 3/10 of a grain increments, watching for pressure signs, and measuring group sizes for each step. I think you will find a sweet spot around the 45gr mark. Maybe revisit your loading method. I throw the load a few grains short on hand trickle up to the desired load.

Good luck mate...Varget is a brilliant powder and works well in the 308...it’s just a matter of fine tuning the load.

I am not familiar with the restrictions in Canada and why this rifle would not be restricted. Are AR15s restricted? I just find a rifle that weights 8.6 pounds without ammo or scope is a bit much to take into the field to hunt with. I am used to 7.5 pounds for the total rifle weight with scope and ammo.

AR15s are restricted "By Name" Libertard thinking. AR10 predates the AR15/16 platform ergo they are not currently restricted. For some light reading go to the RCMP Canadian firearms program website and have a go. My 6 year old Colt could come up with better and more thoughtful regulations.

Not that it will do you much good as Nikon is getting out of the scope business.

I haven’t had a chance to get to the range with my Stevens 200 in .308 yet because of Christmas and the New Year break. What I did do though was buy another scope for my rifle. It’s a Nikko Stirling Diamond FFP 4-16x44.this particular scope has a 34mm tube (necessitated new rings, a new set of MDT off a traded rifle) and gets a pretty reasonable write up, and more importantly I could afford it at AUD$319. I had good results with Nikko Stirling scopes in the past, so fingers crossed, this one will be well up to standard.
I’m really looking forward to getting out to the range and getting this scope zeroed/dialled in and confirm my load of 43.5gr of AR2206H (H4895).

Hey Vince, Its been a long time since I've been on here. Last year was a shyte show. I spent just about 4 months in hospital with a strep D infection that almost killed me. I had to go in for emergency heart surgery to replace my aortic valve that was put in over three years ago.

On Monday night, I was informed of my status by my surgeon and his team.

(Neither my surgeon nor two of the other three doctors on his team were confident in my outcome by their body language or their spoken words. This was one of those times that I wished I wasn't trained so well in one of the fields years ago.)

Tuesday morning early, I called my Pastor and told him everything that I had been told. I asked for my final rites and confession and absolution which I received. Then I called my sister in Saskatchewan to ask her to tell the family out west the news, and finally I called my ex-wife to have her and the kids together asap to tell them all that I may not survive the surgery.

Wednesday morning, and not Wednesday evening!, I was awoken by surgical nurses and taken to the operating theatre and prepared with a couple dozen people watching me from above. I said a prayer. I can't remember when I woke up. MY dick is still in the dirt by the Grace of God and I am Grateful for that. BTW I have the same scope Nikko Sterling Great Scope. Steel Rings and Holy Stone them, blue em for a good fit. Cheers

Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

I agree Dallan…Ron has had a rough trot.

Chimo, time to take it a bit easier mate, relax and chill out. Strep D…that’s a throat infection isn’t it? It must have been hellish nasty mate, and coupled up with the Aortic Valve replacement, I can’t even begin to understand how you would have felt mate. Most important thing is you came through it all ok mate, so as I say…time to relax a bit and chill out and heal, and don’t overdo things.

I did not know how many types of strep there are. In my case I had/have D.
I thought STREP was just a throat infection also.

Now as to the source of this infection. Grab your big Gulp and Popcorn.

The stink of this is that in August 2024, I went to Sudbury for an MRI of my back, and the radiologist misread??? my MRI, reported back that it was all clear, which in turn was reported to me as being all clear.

I had two teeth removed in 2025, one in January and one in March. Both with no complications and both without any pre antibiotic treatment.

My entire body was infected with Strep D. I was not contagious but my was definitely a biohazard.

Now remember I said that I was visited by the surgical team on the Monday night. I was held at Parry Sound Hospital until I was well enough to travel.
I was plucked, out of my room in the ICU just before supper 1720hrs by the transfer ambulance, the nurses didn't have any forewarning, transported 105kms (70 miles) to Southlake Cardiac Centre: Newmarket Ontario (one of the top cardiac hospitals in North America; GREAT surgeon Dr. Kevin TEOH). We arrived at 1855hrs, I was brought to the cardiac floor, put into a room and within the next three hours I had a complete blood work, EEG,EKG,MRI, ULTRA sound, X-rays and a scan like an but not an MRI. I was visited by all four doctors of the surgical team with Dr, Teoh being the last one at around 2330hrs. Two members along with Dr. Teoh used the same word in the same point of our conversation that stuck out. Along with the tempo and what was not being said, that single word spoke more than the entirety of conversations that I had up to this point. "Someone". "Someone (You) should look into this and find out who and why this happened and why it was not caught.

I am scheduled for another MRI for T8-10 area (bra strap) in early February. I still have the same dark area in the spine and now everyone is back up to speed. We got a DUMP of snow up here. Sorry Vince
