Haha Haha thanks mate. It seems I’m slowly but surely transitioning to becoming a southpaw. Now, if only I can learn to write left handed I’ll probably be there. Razz Cool

you will be fine ol bean... old flesh heals slowly but it heals hard.... we humans are pretty good at adapting to new ways of doing things. recoil therapy helps.

Recoil therapy is what I’m looking forward to mate…I need to sort the final load for the Stevens 308…and decide if I want a better stock for it...if I can afford it. I’d have a go at making one, but the cutouts on the inside are pretty much beyond my capability.

Yeah, I know mate…it’s a real bugger, and I’m sick of it. The problem with my thumb needed to be addressed though mate. I could sorta put up with the ‘lumps and bumps’, but when my thumb started locking up it became a problem. Imagine driving over a heavily corrugated road…that’s what my thumb felt like. I’m hoping this o has solved a lot of that…bloody arthritis.

I get to see the Ortho Surgeon tomorrow (18 March) where he’ll make a decision on this damn cast I’ve had on my hand for the past six weeks Mad Mad I’m so sick of not being able to not use my right hand. Fingers crossed the damn thing can come off and I can get back to reloading and some recoil therapy. Very Happy Very Happy

Well, I have the splint off, but things still aren’t working properly…yet. It’s to be expected though as things have been immobilised for the past six weeks. The Ortho said it could take up to six months for things to be good. I just hope I can write and sign my name…as do our local Police.

The bloody medical system has its grimy little hooks into me too. If it’s not one thing it’s another. It seems I have one appointment after another, at least three a week now!

Oh well, I’ll be able to handload now, so recoil therapy isn’t far off, and I can get my new scope zeroed.

speaking of zeroing scopes....I checked both my break open singles today with help of my black n decker workmate table..the top of it is in two halves that split open and clamp things via two handles on long screws..I clamp barrel in the jaws and slowly carefully move table till its lined up on something thirty or so yards away...something cellphone sized is ideal...by keeping eye half meter or so back from breech end I can get object well centred in the bore....then without bumping table its simple matter to move crosshairs onto same object...I find this even more accurate than using a bore sighter/collimeter. I can do the same with bolt action if slide the bolt out. good enough for under hundy yards and will get a fella on paper to zero it properly later on...

That is pretty much what I do mate, only I use the window frame of the house on the other side of the road…I made sure I asked first and let my mate, the neighbour, know what I wanted to do. The good this about using the window frame is I know it is square. I bore sight on a junction then adjust the scope. Good thing about this is I can see if the rifle is canted. I saw another method online some time ago, using a torch shining through the scope. This projects a shadow of the cross hairs onto the wall, where you have pre positioned a sheet of A4 (A3 is better) paper with a cross drawn on it in Sharpie, and taped up with the lines perfectly level (both vertical and horizontal). You can then move the shadow of the cross hairs to where you want them…sort of like a big collimater.
Of course I can’t remember where I found it now. Sad

I use to use the neighbor's garage door. He had a medalian in the middle. That later way may be something I just might try.

I did some searching and came up with this:

Scope aligning

I’m sure it could be adapted to bore sight as well.

Now that is a useful technique. I use two levels but sometimes I wonder of the reticle is really square in the scope.

Yep, a simple plumbob to get the vertical line and you’re “cookin’ with gas”. From there it is a simple action to put in a horizontal line if needed. I draw a cross, using a square, on paper and use the plumbob line to square it up.
