You know me Chet, I just gotta share what I have learned. There was no one around to teach you or me and the least we can do is share what we learn when we go out.

Those hill dogs are still giving me fits and it seems like they are getting warier with each passing year as the popularity of this sport grows. One group got shy to howlers before I got around to them last winter! I waited until breeding season thinking I could bust that old male and he just fussed back and led the group out of the area.Challenging me the whole time! But he has a bad habit, if I can find a newbie with enough nerve and the abilty to sit still, I think he can be taken. If you weren't so attached to Tennessee , you and I would do him in Very Happy L.O.

I'm not sure what part of Tenn. he's in, but the part we go to(Benton) to visit the in-laws is all up & down, I dont think there is a flat spot in that state.

Tennesse and Ky are a lot alike. Whether it is flat or not depends on where you are at the time.If you don't like it just move over twenty feet. Very Happy

It just so happens we both are hunting along the Tennessee River. Chet is down there where it starts and I am on the end where it joins the ohio valley.I don't think there is a flat spot along the Tennessee anywhere Very Happy Those little mountains make for some crazy winds and some hard hunting. But we have a blast doing it. L.O.

Popgun & L.O.
Dog gone it, guys... I've always appreciated the invite! Very Happy You know the road runs both ways, you all are welcome at my camp anytime. Maybe better to hunt in TN anyway, nowing you guys, there couldn’t be many coyotes left in either Georgia or Kentucky. Shocked Laughing

I’m in the Tennessee Valley between the Cumberland Plateau and the Smokey Mountains ( part of the Appalachian Mountain range), about 40 miles west of Knoxville. Needless to say, elevation can vary greatly here.

Your original post talked of getting busted while using hand calls and asked about e/callers. I see you’ve received some very informative responses.
My first “electronic caller” used 45 rpm records. Yep, a battery operated record player put out by Johnny Stewart. Factory fresh records sounded good but soon popped and crackled, even skipped now and then. Believe me, that contraption could be a royal pain. The reason I’m telling this is because regardless of how bad I thought it sounded those scratchy 45’s brought in critters on a regular basis, until the motor finally burnt out. My point… you may decide to but you don’t necessarily have to invest a bundle on a e/caller.

Since then I’ve tried several “boxes that make noise”. Currently I’m using a Johnny Stewart 512 cassette caller and a Fox Pro 532 w/remote. The light weight FP with it’s remote feature has it’s advantages but then again the 512 has called in many a critter.

Ya’ got that right, my friend!! Laughing

This is a subject you and I have talked about several times in the past, and a good subject for a new topic (hint... hint). Understanding how terrain variations (even seemingly minor ones) can influence wind currents is a factor some callers seldom think about… but often face, regardless of their location.

Hint ,hint my foot! You go ahead and get started which way you want to go with it and I will chime in.

Speaking of e-callers. I stopped in Wally world today for some paint and out of bad habit took a gander around the sporting goods department. While looking at scopes I heard a very familiar sound and turned around to look for it. Fellow was playing with the newest toy from Hunters specialties and Johnny Stewart Game calls.

It was a little mp3 type gadget with remote control. Remote works up to fifty yards. I played around with it myself a bit and almost tested it for distance right there in the store, But I didn't want to scare all them little old ladies. No doubt Gerald had a lot to do with the new toy.It can be turned on and off so the rythem can be varied or just let run. Sounds on it were Baby bird, cottontail, canine puppie, Wood pecker, and one other I can't remember at the moment. Price tag was $35 and change. It's called Predator One.

In my opinion, this new gadget is the perfect toy for the entry level caller. All the sounds you really need are there in the one caller. Whole system fits right in your pocket, no need for carry bags.Remote works out to fifty yards so it can be used in areas where a shotgun is the right choice. You can bet I am going to add one to my little bag of tricks myself. L.O.
