|
My fishin partner Sean and I decided to make a "last" trip, well maybe it's the last trip, of the season to a local lake.
Now the first picture is my camp at this lake on the August long weekend. Looks nice doesn't it....
The next picture is what we arrived to on October 30 at a morning temp of -6
After getting into the water, me in my pontoon boat and Sean in his pram, we found the fishing very slow to start. The only excitement I had was spooking a Cow Moose who was close to the waters edge as I made my way into a little bay.
Now, I started off fishing this lake as I always do through out the spring and summer and was having no luck. After watching Sean hook a few fish and asking him how he was getting them I realized I was working the fly far to fast. I switched to a black chrome bead head woolly bugger and also started to retrieve the fly very slowly using a type 4 full sink line. Then the fishing started to get really fun. Both Sean and I caught a good number of fish with my largest reaching 18 inch.
Me fighting a nice fish, see the nice ice in the background......hehe
Sean fighting a nice rainbow
Me fighting a beauty....Nice shot Sean!!!!
Sean Releasing a fishy....
Another Sean Fish.....
One of mine..... Notice the icicles on the underside of my pontoon boat
Now after about five and a half hours of fishing, my feet were frozen and we had both had enough of the frozen eyes and fingers. I have to say, that even though the conditions were a little rough, we had a great day on the water.

Burrr is an understatement, i'm doing good to stay in a deer stand when it's 30 degrees. I couldn't imagine doing it with my feet dangling in the water, regardless what kinda boots i had on.

"as really cold weather is on the way"
Was at the clays range yesterday, like to froze to death. Clouded over with wind blowing 30 MPH and temp dropped to 60 degrees as the front came through.... Next time I will take a long sleeve shirt and long pants...:-D
Bet you guys have ice on the pond and frost on the pumpkin this morning.

Yup...Had to break the ice on the horse water trough this morning (26 degrees F)...But blue sky all around. Should finish opening up the fence at the bottom so the leaves can blow through instead of bunchin' up.

About 8" of snow the last couple of days. Not as cold as they figured it would be, only got down to -8 *C last night. Supposed to get up to +8 tomorrow, weird fall weather. |
Gidday Grant. You guys aren't the only one's having weird weather. Its only a couple of weeks off Summer here in Australia and its usually around 30 C most days now..........but can you believe it, we have had SNOW in a number of places around Australia over the last couple of days. The closest snow to me is about 3 hrs drive south of me and I live at Lat 27.25 South Long 152.56 East. Definitely weird weather at the moment.
Cheers Vince

We in Ontario are still pretty warm, normally we have snow and below freezing by now though.

Beautiful fish! But how did that go...?
There was a young man from Quebec, buried in snow to his neck.
When asked," Is you friz?", he said; Yes I is, but we don't call this cold in Quebec!"
It's 12 degrees outside, but your pixes make me cold!
