Has anyone had anything to do with the new trail cameras with the infrared flash for night? I own a Moultrie Game Spy 200 now but I was thinking of adding one of these new ones to my hunting gadgets. I like the idea that there is no flash so as not to spook game or let any other hunters know of the whereabouts of my camera . I am worried that the latter of these two will cause the theft or damage of my camera . Hunting public land you never know who is poking around.

You need to check out www.chasingame.com for more info on trailcameras. They have videos of deer coming in, seeing the IR flash and busting out of there... they do see the red flashing light from the IR unit.

Like Dallan said, Deer have some IR seeing ability, but it might work. The fast exit will be caused by reaction to the flash.

If you would like to experiment, try buying a dark red #25 plastic filter to tape over your flash, but be aware the light output will be severely reduced--like to 1/4 or less of the original.

Actually, "secret" pixes of the deer aren't really necessary, but like you say, theft of expensive equipment is always a worry.
