Hey Grumpy,
Did you ever figure out the scanner?
I would love to see a picture of the myrtlewood finished.

I can get it to scan, but then I can't attach it to e-mail or post it online. I'm working on it, got a friend coming over this week to try and work it out.

I use Brownells Pro Oil, exclusively. I only do "in the wood finishes."
My Gallery has several of my guns, the Avitar is my 357 Super Mag Martini Cadet. I just posted my 391 Gold Silver Side in the Favorite Shotgun thread.

The pro oil works well when you wet dry sand it in, re-coating until you fill all of the pores. Then give it a final coat, rub out with rotten stone and felt pads moistened with parifin oil. When glass smooth, polish with deluxing compound untill it starts to shine.

I have been using Tru-oil for most of my stock finishing..I tried boiled linseed oil on some milsurps I was restoring and I didnt care for the results..

Here is the last rifle I built..a 280AI using a microfit stock and tru oil..

When I got done with the 280 I buffed the shine down to get a satin finish...

This 257 Roberts has a Fajen stock and again Tru-oil finish..but I didnt buff this one down...

After seeing how my 280 turned out I am tempted to redo the Roberts in the satin finish too...
