Anyone know whether there are any huntable varmits in the western NC area?? I hope to go down this spring/early summer to visit my son and family. They live in the Candler/Clyke area west on Asheville. We would be staying in the Lake Lure area and travel back and forth. I'm thinking ground hogs...........or what ever.

There are indeed groundhogs in the area. Problem for you is few land owners will give strangers permission to hunt! Some locals are much too clannish, many more have been burnt by poor "hunters".

Your best bet would be for your family to search for a hunting location for you within their circle of friends. And, if they do find some, courtesy helps.

Wncchester, thanks for the inputs. He's been down there 7 years now and for sure he knows it's clannish country. He has gotten to know quite few people down there. Just hasn't brought up varmit hunting and hasn't seen much..........but inexperience is part of that. Went deer hunting with him 1st week of December but we were focused on finding deer.......saw some every day but no shots.
