Great info.

The older members here will remember I came within an inch of building a .338-06 a couple years ago. There was quite the long discussion on it. In the end while I still wanted one I got laid off and that project was put on hold. I am pretty sure when I get ready for a "big bore" I might just go the .375 route... but I've always been a fan of having something unique so the 338-06 still interests me.

Side note Zeeriverrat1, how much does it cost to hunt hogs down in TX?

Dallan..several years ago, I met a big hearted Texan on the HuntAmerica board when I was trying to find a reasonable hunt for my handicapped son....as it turned out..the guys I hooked up with do hog damage control for their neighbors....anyway that first year we had a great time..and all it cost Jack and I was our traveling expenses..

We became great friends and have gone back every year...they get their batteries charged by setting Jack up on a hunt of some type that he would never experience without their help..he has to work really hard to have any success...and when we go down there...our friends share in that success... He shot his first whitetail down there..along with several hogs, a couple of javelinas and last year a little spike axis buck....and of course old Dad gets to blast a bunch of hogs too...

I love hunting in that S TX brush country..it is like going to another planet compared to where I live..... Very Happy

To answer your question..there are some reasonable hunts..and some places if you book a hunt for an exotic or whitetail the hog hunting is free... Check out this link to the Texas Predator Posse...

texaspredatorposse.ipbhost.com/

They have some group hunts for the posse members that are really reasonable for a lot of stuff not just hogs....

I hope I can get this 338-06 figured out...and gets some loads tuned for it so that I can field test it on them hogs......I have a ways to go on load development...

A .375 huh? I would like to have one eventually...I have a large ring Mexican mauser that would make a great 376 Steyr..... Very Happy
