hunterjoe, The archery season is 16 days and the 1st rifle season is also 16 days. We don't have a Muzzleloader season in this zone. There is also a late rifle season but if you are lucky you can get drawn for the archery plus one of the two rifle seasons. These are blacktails and they start their migration sometime between the last of the archery season and during the first rifle season. It all depends on hunting pressure, moon phase and weather. This herd migrates about 70 miles and once the migration starts it is a different ball game. Blacktails are allot like whitetails when they are in their summer range which is in the basin that I have a cabin. I get to watch them all summer long and try to find a big one and hope the weather stays hot so they don't think about migrating. We hunt Forest Service land and private timber lands that are open to the public. Having your own little sanctuary doesn't happen and hunting pressure can screw everything up once in a while. I hunt just Southeast of Mt. Lassen and on the edge of the Caribou Wilderness area. I just had the worst season since 1961, everything went wrong. I saw about 15 bucks during archery season and didn't get a single shot. Rifle season wasn't any better. The only hope I have is my trip to Colorado next week. I'm so excited I can't sleep.
