Just thought i would share this with you guy's.
My wife was looking at getting a used Ford Escape and "ALMOST" would have gotten screwed if i didn't check the VIN on Carfax!
The vehicle was a 2003 and only $13,500 'i believe?' (plus she knows how to wheel and deal) but when she came home and told me that she wanted it, i questioned the low price when they Blue Book for $18,000 and figured the dealer was trying to off a problem...... Which they were! Mad
The Carfax report said there was a few recalls, it was reported stolen 2 times and needing repairs from that, and in a major accident! So after finding this out, i went to look at the vehicle and sure enough, you can see the repair lines in the door jamb and on part of the roof line! Mad
The sales guy came up to my wife and i and asked if i wanted to take it for a spin....HAAAHAAAHAAAAHAAAA. I said, NO.....but i would like to know WHY you didn't tell my wife after she asked if this vehicle was in an accident? He denied her asking and went further to say "it's a good car" and we up and left!
So i guess you never know how far "some" sales people will go to screw and lie to people! Mad

I have also used CarFax and it saved me from problems. I would recommend that anyone considering the purchase of a used vehicle use this service. The last time I used it I think that I paid $19.95. The best 20 bucks I've spent. It prevented me from buying a car that had been underwater during Hurricane Floyd in North Carolina. Very clean auto but the low price didn't seem right. Well that is the rest of the story. There are tools out there for you to use, LET THE BUYER BEWARE!!! Shocked Very Happy

Keep in mind that a good inspection by you may reveal damage that is not reported on CarFax. While checking a vehicle I was buying I checked my vehicles to see what was reported. Two of my vehicles are deer killers. Our Mazda has $2,200.00 damage to front end, and the pickup damage was just over $3,000.00. Both were fixed at Insurance Company preferred shops and neither showed up on Carfax. If you looked closely you could see the repairs on the vehicles. CarFax does not report 100% of vehicles that have been damaged & repaired.

You know Popgun, that's very true! And it's sad to say that many of the body shops (and preferred at that) do less than good work around me. Even my cousin owns a body shop and he even admitted that insurance companies (and jobs) is only paying to get it fixed and not to be 100%. And this is his explination.... "Body should match up and all panels, although a custom shop will make sure no wave or line is present, we can get away with it because we just have to get it done and save them rental costs".

Atleast it's a tool that's cheap enough, and could save you (like me so far) over $45,000.........and that's just in the last week from 3 vehicles looked up.
