I thought I'd pass this along to any Ruger SR9 owners.

RUGER® SR9™ PRODUCT SAFETY WARNING AND RECALL NOTICE
DO NOT USE YOUR RUGER SR9 PISTOL

We have determined that some Ruger SR9 pistols manufactured between October 2007 and April 2008 can, under certain conditions, fire if dropped with their manual safeties in the "off" or "fire" position. The pistols will not fire if the manual safety is in the "on" or "safe" position.

We will retrofit all Ruger SR9 pistols starting with serial number prefix "330" (330-xxxxx) with these new parts at no charge to our customers. When we return your SR9, we also will send you a FREE extra magazine as a "thank you" for your patience and cooperation.

Thanks for the info. Looks like I'll be getting a free magazine...

Nothing for me to worry about since I don't buy Rugers.

Kinda odd, I'd have never imagined any gun being warrantied for going off when the safety is in the fire position. Shocked

D, in the land of frivolous lawsuits you gotta head 'em off any way you can. I'm pretty sure that CA does a drop test on guns before you can sell them there. Won't be long until they require a test to see if the gun will fire under ANY circumstances and only those that are totally inopperable can be sold there...

Mike,

That makes sense I guess, but if I had one of those Ruger's I'd ask them for my free magazine and call it a day. A safety is no substitute for proper handling, chamber empty and magazine in the gun is the closest to being ready I am unless I'm starting to shoot so not too worried about dropping it. Laughing

Ditto. The best safety mechanism is the one between the ears.

Many moons ago Ruger had a recall for the Model 77. When you took the safety off, it would go bang. It was a quick fix that I was able to do myself with the parts supplied by Ruger rather than send it in for the fix. I found out about it a couple days before hunting season and let others in our camp know about it. We had four Ruger 77's in camp of various calibers. It instantly became an extremely safety conscious camp. Very Happy
