I love carbon and think they are safe if you carefully check the shafts between firing. I usually run my fingers down them every time I pull one from the target. Yea I know I risk the chance of a nasty splinter but its worth it IMO.

After shooting carbon for alot of years I finally found a cracked arrow this year. It seems I very nearly robin hooded one of my arrows and it created a split down the side past the vanes. The knock and arrow otherwise looked normal. I was able to feel the split and discard the arrow.

I've seen pictures of wooden arrows that shattered the same way embedded in arms.

Guess my al-u-minium crossbow "arrows" aren't goin anywhere for a while.

And I just bought my first carbon arrows this year when I buggered up a few of my aluminum arrows. I was just starting to like them. I will look at them a little harder now for defects.
That just hurts looking at it...wow! Have to have the story behind that!
