Can you reload steel case for this round?

The prices have gone up but not enough to make me hate myself enough to do that.

Most of the steel case stuff is Berdan primed with two flash holes so you cannot punch out the primer like a boxer primed brass case. You have to pry the primers out with a hand tool. Plus, much of the steel case stuff has a laquer or polymer coating that will like to stick in a sizing die if not lubed to the gills.

Conventional wisdom says that steel cases do not have enough flex in the metal to re-form in a sizer die. Although - I read recently where someone re-loaded .45 ACP steel case successfully. In an emergency - you probably could. But for the extra work, headache and risk..... just buy another case of the stuff from Cheaper Than Dirt and sell the steel cases for scrap.

As Dawgdad says, it really isn't worth the effort. Years ago I got a bucket of military .45 ACP brass cheap...only to find the hard way (case stuck in sizing die) that some of it was steel. Once is enough to break even a cheapskate like me!

be aware of this stuff. we had a heap of problems getting a single shot baikal 7.62 to group when we got rifle and sights sorted we noticed the china sport rounds were all over the show and the cases were shocking one was turned in on itself eg it had a 1/4" of extra steel inside case mouth that was still atatched to fired case afterwards. I hate to think what the forces were like as it was turning out with the projectile.the norinco stuff we have here is ok and highland or pmc is cheap enough to use to get brass.

Lets not dance around the answer to the question.
Should you reload it?....No!
You can not properly size the cases because steel does not have the spring back that the brass cases do. You wind up with a case that is over sized.
You could go through the motions of reloading, even decaping the berdan primed steel case but do you have a source of berdan primers? Just not worth the effort when you should be reloading 'boxer' primed brass cases.
Dump the trash where it belongs, in the circle file.

I do know of one person whom I trust, who got ahold of a large quantity of US Mil-Spec(Boxer primed) Steel case .45ACP. He has had about as many loadings per casing as brass casings. Part of the reason he theorized was that due to the lower pressure in a standard .45ACP loading it did NOT significantly "work" the casing. Or when it did it was similar to a brass casing. I have not yet tried it myself as I do not have a significant supply of Boxer primed steel cases.
