Well since they closed their factory in Connecticut last month, I haven't heard anything if Remington is going to open up another plant in the states or if they are going overseas. Sad I bought my first (jack handle as Bushy says) back in 1972, model 336 Zane Grey 30/30 that has bought down quite a few deer, 1 black bear and 1 boar. The other is an 1895 45/70.

Hopefully they can open up a plant in the US rather then overseas.

It depends. There are a lot of Marlin rifles on the used gun racks in the gun shops that I visit. I prefer older used guns because they tend to have better wood, fit and finish and a lower hang tag price. I like older women for the same reasons. Take care...

Shocked Shocked Shocked Hiding Hiding

Joe...the ladder is just over there mate...there is probably a couple of guys hiding at the top.

Marlin closed down...hmmm...methinks that is going to cause some angst for a few. Hey 1895ss...thinking of upgrading mate...could be a problem. Hiding

Cheers, Vince

From Marlin's web site:

"Madison, NC –The Freedom Group, Inc., announced the closure of its Marlin manufacturing facility, located in North Haven, Connecticut. The transition of Marlin firearms production in North Haven to a future site will not affect customers’ shipments or the range of Marlin product offerings. At the time of last Thursday’s announcement, the Freedom Group was still evaluating several relocation options and will announce the future production site of Marlin firearms when the final decision is made.

“As competition in today’s global marketplace remains intense, consolidation of our manufacturing processes and operating systems allow us to provide Marlin customers with the highest quality products at competitive prices,” said Ted Torbeck, Freedom Group’s Chief Executive Officer. “We are committed to the Marlin brand, its core product offerings and bringing innovative new Marlin firearms to our customers.”

Joe,
You post was correct regarding the ample number of used Marlin firearms that are available. There should be quite a few available for a long time to come. I cannot comment on the last part about older women.

I have friend living outside Rome, New York which is not far from the Remington plant in Ilion, New York. He says the word is that Marlin production will be relocated to Ilion. We shall see. All the best...
Gil

A friend of mine has been bugging me for quite a while about buying his Model 95 (never been fired). Guess I'd better move on it quick...just in case!

Needs and wants are not the same...I want a 444 XLR but I do not need one of these fine rifles but I sure would like one.
