I believe you call them sheilas down there Vince...

The only TRUE hunt show and magazine article was two hunts in the Northwest (Washington State). The star hunter got skunked by our Blacktails and admitted that he had never hunted such an elusive deer. The writer/hunter also stated the same thing though he says he got one. Both these hunts were in the area that I have hunted from 1965 through 1986. Unless you know the country you probably will get skunked for the first two or three years until you understand the Blacktail deer. It's rough steep mountain country with dense and damp forests (trees and brush). I have taken many deer out of this area (Snoqualimie National Forest east of Seattle). and I have been skunked a few times too. almost all my shots have been running shots under 35 yards. Definately .30-30 country. You won't see or read of many hunts for Blacktails in the Great Northwest because of this. Also...If you are not being rained on, you are being snowed on.

As Dallan said. Most hunts on TV and in magazines are canned hunts and most of us can't afford them anyway...

ALL the hunting shows are just rich people trying there hardest to get you to buy crap you dont need to make them richer. They change there sponsers like we change under wear. for instance "O'Neal outdoors".

Just remember it's entertainment. I put about as much stock in what they tout as I would any other scripted show.

Camo clothing is the best. The hunter is decked out in all the latest millspec dot matrix camo with sent blocking UV blocking fabric special boots and a charcoal liner. The Guide is wearing jeans and a wool jacket.

And if you don't have a 2 3/4 to 3 1/2 inch automatic you will be knocked on your ?

Did you ever notice they always take the big buck on the last day of the hunt. I suspect it's also the first day of the hunt as well.

Perched some thirty feet up a tree with a long gun and a 500 dollar scope over looking a soybean field you should be able to drive in and take a big buck that has been raised just for you as well.

Plus they always look surprised when after the cameraman finds the deer they "discover" their down buck under a bush.

Don't get me started !

Got to agree with you on hunting the Great Northwest Bushmaster. 30 years of hunting out that way and can't ever remember getting a shot over 75 Yards. Some tough hunting conditions, and one needs to be in pretty good shape.--tr

To Longwalker... ROFL ROFL ROFL ROFL

To Moose2...You've experienced the Cascades have you. and survived...My hat is off to you. To me it is still the best hunts that I have ever had. Even if it requires skill (+ tracking ability) and endurence and like you said lots of endurence ("needs to be in pretty good shape"). Some of the most beautiful country there is...

That is a MARVELOUS (some mignt say beautiful) example of the species.

We calls 'em two pointed does around here, and no license is required...just permission. That goes:" How 'bout dinner and a show Saturday?" "Seven thirty? Fine." Very Happy

But HUNTING shows without all the blather? A radical thought! Shocked

It seems like they are trying to talk a hindquarter off whatever critter they are hunting. It overcomes the WORST thing a broadcaster can be faced with---DEAD AIR. Shocked

They probably assume our attention span is not long enough to watch a hunter being quiet. Wink A Pox on 'em all!

I'll be aging myself to say the last hunting show I watched before "Getting Wild With Cindy Garrison", was a semi local show out of Kansas City called "Outdoors with Harold Ensly" back in the late 60s and early 70s.

All else seems to fall under the listing of "Paid Advertisement".
