Guys and gals
Don't know how much you know about NZ but we"re not as Clean and Green as you'd be lead to believe.

We have a real issue with the aerial application of 1080 poison (sodium fluoroacetate)by some, in pristine areas. This includes current application to Govt to poison the Kaimanawa and Kaweka ranges which is some of the best Sika Deer Hunting areas of the world!

Do some digging and see how bad it really is. Also talk to your local representatives to contact the NZ Govt about this.

We stand to lose some of the best hunting in the world due to poor understanding of the ecosystem and the long term effect of this insidious poison.

The tourist hunting $$$ are serious money to NZ so every contact counts.

You're joking mate !!! Haven't they learned anything from other parts of the world, Australia included? Scratch That stuff is evil in every sense of the word. Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

What are they targeting with the 1080? Surely not the deer...they are native aren't they?

EDIT:

It seems they are targeting TB infected possums, rats ans stoats.

I'm sorted betwixt the devil and the deep blue sea on this one...they claim to be trying to stop the spread of the TB into cattle, farmed deer and native animals. I can live with that, but surely there is another way to achieve their aim...1080 is a very persistent and non-discriminatory poison.

Look up the Graff boys videos on You Tube - its enough to make you cry, I know Steve and Clyde and they're passionate anti 1080 supporters despite the pro 1080 users digging up dirt from decades ago. Actually their Dad Egon is a hunting legend here in NZ

I hope a viable solution is found that doesn't indiscriminately kill off all wildlife. The after affects and the poison's persistence can't be a good thing either.

the T.B. angle is a crock of horse shit and has been for years...I should know as we lived in an area with quite a bit of it around us in beef herds. the single biggest spreader of the disease has 2 legs not 4 and walks upright.
yes I hate this stuff with a passion as have seen how it kills first hand and Mates let me tell you this much for a fact, dogs are VERY VERY VERY susceptible to it and it is a horrific death.
no we don't have a viable alternative for the very steepest/remote blocks but that's the other crock of horse shit...T.B. ISNT back there and even if it was it cant infect a herd of cattle as they are miles away.
a bounty system on possums will work as targeting the easy country is what is needed, the easy country is where cattle are...doah too simple really.
as for rat and stoats......... well myself I run a few traps to target them as does my Brother...his biggest kills are AFTER 1080 drops as there is less food for rats and stoats so they go hunting harder.....how does that help out birds??????
biological control in NZ is a very dodgy thing as just about everything brought here behaves differently to where it came from, just look at gorse, the stoats and ferrets were brought in to control rabbits but soon found our ground nesting birds easy prey.
