Its not official of course, but clever people noticed that the Utah F&G charge people for drawn hunts a couple weeks before the results are mailed out. Knowing this I've been keeping an eye on my bank account and it got hit friday for charges equal to a general deer tag and a Limited Entry Deer tag. I put in for a Lt entry Book Cliffs deer tag, my wife for general deer.

So 7 years of waiting and building up bonus points pays off. I get to hunt in a pretty good area of Utah. Its far from the best area (which requires 12 pts currently to give you a 20% chance to draw) but it holds mature Mule deer in the 22" to +30" width range. On average the better hunters take deer in the 25-27" range. 30's are still rare but a couple are taken each year. I'm very excited about this.

They still havent done the charge for the "Once in a Life Time" tags yet, and while I'm knocked out from drawing the deer, my wife still stands a good shot at a Mt Goat tag. Guess we'll know next couple days.

Time to schedule 9 days of vacation time (the length of the rifle hunt) for this October.

I went rifle. While I normally hunt Muzzleloader for all other deer hunting, blowing this many points I wanted a rifle in my hands. Also there is a chance we could have an early winter like this past one where we get some snow.

I love hunting in snow. Thats the only thing I dislike about the current Muzzleloader hunt, I hate hunting Deer in 85 degree weather.
