anyone have a starter load for 223 rem. with a 1-9 twist ?
i know it does not like 55 grain hornady or 55 grain noslers .ive tried 63 grain sierra semi points with no better luck and the wolf ammo is even worst . the guidlines say i can go up to a 70 grain bullet with 1-9 twist.
the firearm is a nef single shot with 24 in bull barrel.
any info will be appreciated muchly so ..

Redneckhunter,
Are you looking for an accurate load, or a fast bullet.
For accuracy, try 22.0 grains of H4895 with a 70 grain Speer at an OAL of 2.15".
If you want fast then try 26.5 grains of WW748 with the same bullet.
You can go higher on both loads - they are not maximums but a good place to start.

redneckhunter, go to page three and check out the .223 load test I did earlier this year. Both rifles were 1/9 twist 24" Bull Barrels. I know all of our rifles like different loads but maybe you can use some of the info. Good Luck

I bought a tikka lite 3 in 223,that has a 1-8 twist,
I tried winchester factory ammo.I tried remington. This rifle wouldnt hit the side of the barn if i ws inside shooting.
I reloaded ,i had hornday book lyman book i had loaded one round at a time.all charges were weghted in the scale.i did the col. to what the books read.it dint make any dif,i made them longer.I made them as long as my mag, would fit, still nothing,I tried 40 gr,45,50,55 this and that, nothing better then.maybe 3 or 4 in groups,I cleaned the barrel,i did it all.never shot more then 3 shot groups.
then one day,,after 400 reloads,it finely shot 1/2 in groups,
and with the same loads that wouldnt shoot 3 in now shoots 1/2 or less.
so take your time, and try dif lenghts, col, and .5 gr in dif powder weights,
maybe your rifle needs broke in,
Not all rifles need to be shot 400 timess like mine did, some shoot great right out of the box,
and yur 1-9 twist will shoot 40 gr, noslers and 50 gr noslers, well ,and you can still shoot the heaviers ones too,

I have an ar15 with a 1 in 9 twist. I loaded up with TUBB final finish bullets and it made my group size shrink from 2 inch at 100yrds to dime size afterwards. I guess my barrel needed broke in, and those TUBB bullets did just that. My load now is 25.0 gr of benchmark with a cci br4 primer and 60gr VMAX. I only have a 16 inch barrel though and my optics are 4x32 tijicon ACOG. 3010 fps
