Like the assassination of JFK or the first landing on the moon, many of us remember where we were when the planes struck the World Trade Center. Working about 20 miles away in New Jersey, I wasn't too far away when it happened. I remember being at work and hearing the first reports coming over the NYC news radio station that I had on at the time. I also remember the military jets being the only flights seen that day and for days after. On my way home that day the New Jersey State Police barracks that I pass was surrounded by tractor trailers to prevent access to possible further terror attacks and I wondered if I'd be able to cross the bridge back into PA. I think more than anything I thought about where my family members were and hoping they were safe. Cell phone lines were jammed with calls and you had no way to get through to your family.
If you listened to a radio or watched TV at all today I'm sure you heard of one or more of the memorials to the victims of 9/11 and rightly so. So many lives were irrevocably touched by that act of terror well beyond those lost just that day. Here's hoping we never forget.

I remember that night well (it was night out here). I was still in the Army at that time and was in the field with a Company of US soldiers when the news came over the radio. It was a very torrid next few days I can assure you.

Cheers, Vince

I was working as a storeman down on the waterfront and it was all the truckdrivers talked about all day we were all glued to the radio.

I was just walking into my home, I saw my brother in law watching TV, and I saw the fire on one of the twin towers.
Then I saw the next plane slammed into the other tower..
I remember asking him what movie it is.. he is just sat there, silent.. staring at the TV.
Then I say that it is actually on the news!!

I run and wake SWMBO up and she wept when she saw the whole building collapsed.
No words can express the sorrow we felt..

I truly hope that something like this wont happen anymore.
It is not war.. it is anarchy, it is vandalism.. it is shameful stupid waste of lives.

I was glad to see the memorial services recognize the soldiers that lost their lives in actions post-9/11 as well as those still serving.

Saw it happen live on the TV in the break room. Chilling and I remember uttering to myself we are going to war w/ a massive lump in my throat.

Erie driving home on an empty 405 freeway w/o any planes coming over as I passed LAX. I've never seen aynthing like that, empty freeway and airspace. It was pretty unsettling. Amazing how many people I came into contact with that were in total shock and I broke down a couple times that day. I didn't know them but we had a couple people here from coroprate that were lost after the towers came down.

I've been known to exagerate and over react but I still stand by my belief we should have taken the gloves totally off and ended all this rediculous BS once and for all. Letum all know they got 8 hours to leave before Hell comes and We are coming with it. 100% Scorched Earth followed by a batallion of dozers. IT's gone on forever and it'll never stop unless someone makes it all go away at once.

I had the opportunity to have dinner in the North Tower back in 1999, when you took the elevator to the top floor where the restaurant was, you had to get off midway and go to another elevator to reach the top floor.

911 is one day I don't think anyone will forget, our secretary came running out to the shop and told us what happened and for the rest of the day we sat glued to the tv in shock.

I had just got back in from my coffee break when the boss came in the shop and told us what had happened. I immediately punched out and went screaming home to see for myself what was televised. As I watched I started packing all my military equipment in anticipation. There were a lot of phone calls between my command myself and my soldiers. I will never forget the emotions that went through our home that day.
