The accuracy of any ammo will vary with each individual rifle. One rifle may shoot a nice tight 1-inch group with a particular type of ammo and the next rifle will shoot 2.5-inch groups at 100 yards. Alls you can do is try different type ammo. This can get expensive if you have to try several different boxes.
If you want long-range and good knock-down power then you definitely want a bullet that has a boat-tail. I believe bullet construction is important and prefer monolythic bullets. I reload Barnes 110gr TTSX, 130gr TSX, and Hornady 130gr GMX for my Tikka .270. I also have store-bought Winchester 150gr XP3 (BC 0.50) which shoots .75-inch groups in my Tikka. Of my reloads, the 130gr bullets both do best out to 400 yards and have ballistic coefficients (BCs)around 0.45. Federal loads the Barnes 130gr TSX and Hornady loads the 130gr GMX in their Superformance. You'll be paying $35 to $45 a box. Don't expect the $20 Winchester or Remington lead-core bullets to perform as well.

Thank you! Ive heard alot of good things bout Hornady. Probly will try them out. Ive always shot the cheap stuff and i had a bad result out of a recent 300yrd shot. dropped about 10 in and seemed not to be very accurate.

Welcome to the Forum.
I have a Savage 110 in .270 and prefer Winchester 130 grain ammo. My recommendation would to try several different brands of factory ammo and see what works well. All the best...

Probably want to use .270 ammunition. .308 is too short and 30-06 is too big.
But that would be true even if it was a Remington.

Welcome to Hunting Nut !!!
I've always used Federal Premium for the factory stuff......They have a wide variety of bullet types to choose from and have always shot around a MOA or better out of my guns.

greatings mmarti grab one of Vinces beers from the cooler sit on a stump and enjoy the forum.
great to see a fellow .270 win user its a great caliber and has never let me down.
norma factory rounds are great. they may cost a bit more but are great in all ways. I prefered 130grn factory loadings as the 150s were a bit harder on the shoulder.
the PMC factory loads were cheap enough and did the biz for me once I took the exposed lead of the end as my rifle mashes them in the mag with recoil.I reload now so havent used store bought for years.

In my woods the ranges are less then 100 yards so anything goes w a .270 I've tried everything from 110's to 160's it all worked great but for penetration 130 and greater would go almost a whole deer length the 130 nosler baltip put the jacket in the air-pipe from a ham-shot and and the 160's predictably were never found welcome aboard. Is vince here yet I just got off work and I'm good and ready.

Yea!! I'd add it to an existing AR thread or start a new one with your pictures!

Sorry guys...been busy...but yep...I'm here now...coolers full...or should be...help yourselves.
Welcome aboard MMarti...plenty of beer there mate, grab one and take the weight off.
Don't have a .270 so I can't offer any advice in that area...but what I will say is once you have settled on a brand of ammo, do a little practice with it and make sure your rifle is well sighted in to the new ammo. This may cost a little (an extra box of ammo maybe) but it will be money well spent.
Make sure you save your cases, and after your hunt, give some thought to handloading mate. Works out heaps cheaper and gives you the flexibility to use the load and bullet of your choice. Typically, handloads equal or exceed factory loadings for accuracy because they are tailored to YOUR rifle, not the average rifle on the market.
Let me know if that cooler is gettin' low guys...I'll refill.
Cheers, Vince

mmarti if your real lucky and your .270 is like mine it will put any load you care to fire through it in to the same playing card sized area. I now use a real accurate 130grn load for longer range and a 170grn load for in the bush. at 100 yrds the 130s are 3" high and the 170s are smack on.
