Thomas Jefferson carefully hand-copied the following passage into his personal journal fromrenown 18th century criminologist,Cesare Beccaria, On Crimes and Punishment, 87-88 (Henry Palolucci trans., [1764). Beccariais generally regarded as the founderof criminology. The complete quotation, without editing: "False is the idea of utility that sacrifices a thousand real advantages for one imaginaryof trifling inconvenience; that would takefire from men because it burns, and water because one may drown in it; that has no remedyfor evil, except destruction.The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature.

Makes sense to me mate. Regardless of any law...a person has the right to self defence, protect themselves. He/she must also provide sustenance for the family.
