I just heard Sandy made landfall 5 miles from Atlantic City, N.J. They had said the storm has picked up speed on and off this past day and hopefully that means it will pass quicker than originally forecast.

A patriotic article in the mid of the crazyness

news.yahoo.com/blogs/t...ction.html

Quote::
WASHINGTON—Hurricane Sandy is expected to slam the East Coast and the federal government is shut down—but the U.S. servicemen who guard the outdoor Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetery will remain on duty.

"They will not abandon their post," an employee who answered the Arlington Cemetery's phone confirmed to Yahoo News. He identified himself as "George," but was not authorized to speak on the record to the media.

The tomb, located just outside Washington, D.C., holds the remains of unidentified soldiers from World War I, World War II and Korea.

Meh, winds of 60km/h and gusts of up to 100km/h today, and tomorrow and possibly Wednesday.

I need to go to the LCBO and buy another bottle of the clear stuff so I can enjoy the time indoors.

I've been down in Sydney the past week emptying out my Mum's house and haven't had any news. Got back night before last and heard all about the storm...WOW...you guys have certainly copped a real pizzling. I'm glad to hear that none of our Nuts have had any major problems and that most in the US have come through relatively unscathed, although I heard on the news today that the death toll is at 48. Not good

Dallan, from what I have read about the Guards at Arlington, they are pretty special. It doesn't surprise me that they stood their post. Salute

We made it through. We did not get 6 to 10 inches of rain because I live along a creek and know we got perhaps 2 to 3 inches. The wind was a different story. My electric was off for three days and I was on generator power. I did not lose any trees, but there were branches on the ground and any one of the big ones could have inflicted a fatal blow. My office building had the rubber roof peel back and flooded our offices. A total of 55 staff members have been relocated to other locations. I am now in the Heckman Cottage with my staff and it is wonderful. All the best...
