I have to be honest Suz...I didn't take the pics of the rifling...I actually found them on the net after about 45 mins of searching.

The one showing the ballard rifling is using extra lighting with the pic taken on MACRO for a close up pic. The one showing the microgrooves is "backlit" with a bore light and again it is taken on MACRO.

Experiment with your camera mate...get some guidance from one of our resident camera experts...Gelan.

awesome pictures of rifling. the big one I didnt see was the old enfield 2 groove rifling now that is a strange on just 2 narrow grooves and 85%lands.
nice job on the levergun Vince. I too have made my own leather slings as I dont like the bought ones(and Im too stingy to pay for them).from what you say Suz about not having your hand in the lever maybe a big loop may just be better??? or try fingerless glove????

Oh it's a habit now Elvis, my 30-30 has the same loop and I always deer hunt with that gun, just feels better on the hand to do it that way. I love the looks of the large loop but they're very expensive and actually the loop would get in my way if it was larger. I have a metal rifle holder that goes on my belt and the pistol grip of the stock fits in the holder, so the large loop would just be in my ribs. I love that thing too, it lets me climb hands-free even with a back pack on.

You may find an increase in accuracy if you recrown that barrel. There are several ways to do it and one only requires a hand drill and a carriage bolt with some lapping compound on it. I prefer to use a piloted reamer but they are expensive and you would need pilots for each bore you wanted to recrown.

I haven't even shot it yet Paulie, but I know what you mean, I am kinda wary of the Remlin thing. I checked it out as much as I could find on the subject of manufacturing. Hope I got a winner. I have some lapping compound left over from my Mauser bolt face lapping. Got great results from both my Mausers (.270 and 8mm) both can shoot within an inch at 100yds.

I'm waiting on my reloading dies right now, I bought some handloads from the gun show and they need crimping and some of the bullets need to be pulled. Just got through ordering a collet for my puller. I love tax money!! and I'm spending it fast!! Gotta find some powder too.

Won't have any money left for medical bills (so I better slow down) but I'm havin fun anyway.

Suz, if the seller of those reloads let that split case go PLEASE don't shoot those loads!! Pull them all, save the bullets and good cases for later and use the powder for fertilizer.

Well mine was made in 2010 so it's definately a Remlin. Alright I won't shoot any of those handloads...I asked the guy how hot the loads were and he said just like factory loads, (that's not sayin much) so I'm going to pull them all. I found 2 that I would trash anyway, it's a minor rip-off but I can use the bullets and 18 of the brass. Am curious how full they packed the bullets, won't be able to tell what kind of powder tho. Pumpkin...keepin me in-line...keepin me focused....keepin me safe
