Wondering about the hunting with suppressors, as there's so many people out there, to me it's nice to know where everybody is (in the woods). I like the inclusions for privacy too. Looks like they're being very nice in NC.

suppresors, well without you only tell people where you are when/if you fire a shot or more than one..otherwise no real difference.
my big bro stalked in on a roaring stag this rut/roar he was in real close when he heard puuut "its down" he nearly crapped himself. he called out and went over to have a chat. turns out 2 guys where within 100 yards of him,in deep bush/forest 2 hours from road end...you never know where someone else might be.

Interestingly enough some goat cullers are dead against suppressors. It seems that the goats very quickly work out where the shots are coming from, unlike a big boom echoing around them. I know what I prefer "Here comes the BOOM!"

Well I'm just thinkin that when I'm in the woods and hear a few pops goin off, I tend to stay away from that area. Usually you can tell by a truck parked nearby cause the forest is so thick people don't tend to go very far off road on foot. I'm usually hunting in a tree farm with very few open areas, so you can tell where people are, but if you think you're alone and hear a loud blast, then you realized you guessed wrong and that's when i leave. I think suppressors would be great for target shooting tho, you'd be less apt to upset the surrounding neighbors.

All good points about suppressors.

For hunting, I think I wouldn't mind one on my .22 rimfire when hunting bunnies, but apart from that I don't think there is a big case for them.

I like Suz's suggestion for target shooting. I'm sure other parts of the world are suffering from similar problems to us Aussies...property developers and the real estate industry will do anything anywhere to make a BIG buck, and if that involves greasing palms in the Town Planning areas of local authorities so they can develop land close to Firing Ranges, they will. I've seen Military Ranges that have been in existence since the late 1800's severely limited or closed down by the encroachment of suburbia. The old argument of we were here first and have been here for 100 years makes no difference anymore, especially where money is to be made.

We aint allowed to use suppressor in Oz.. typical gevernmental decision.. just like semiauto rifles.
anyhow, thats not why I replied.

Goats, they are curious and pretty dumb animal.
When animals hear a bang, most of them would run away..
Goats on the other hand would pop up to have a look..

So before 1997, it usually goes like.. BANG... BANG BANG BANG.. Yeah I got four!!! Very Happy
After 1997 in Oz, it becomes.. BANG...click clack .. BA.. Oh damn there goes your dinner.. Sad

I'll have to start thinking about a suppressor for .22 rimfire. We still have to go through Federal background checks, pay a $200 Federal tax and then buy the suppressor (I think they are $300 and up). It might be fun, and actually useful for hunting in some areas where people might otherwise complain about noise. I'm really not sure how much they truely reduce the noise but I haven't done any research yet.

A good suppressor with a .22 rimfire, and subsonic ammunition, will reduce the noise to as near to zero as you can get. I remember a mate had one many years ago (pre Jack Boot Johnny) and he fired 10 rounds from a semi auto .22 and all I heard was the cycling of the action.

goats are predictable in hill country..fire the first shot and they will climb up to a high point...right into your mates waiting line of fire. I would hate to think how many I shot as a teenager. dog tucker ,sold to meat buyer for beer money or just blasted for the heck of it.
