We have 16 hours of instruction required in Land of Lincoln. I take the first 8 hours tomorrow which is more or less the NRA basic pistol course. I opened the safe last night and wiped down and inspected a Kimber 1911, 3 glocks, S&W 39-2 and a Makarov .380. I checked out several leather holsters and a Fobus paddle holster for the Glocks and Blakhawk Serpa retention rig for the 1911...Then pulled a beat up $150 South American police buy back Taurus 82 with a nylon uncle Mikes holster and said yup, that is what I am taking to the class. Dang thing shoots real well for looking like a POS. I do not want to be "that guy" in the class with the $1200 pistol and $100 holster who is not sure how to release the magazine... I want to be the guy who gets sneers and snickers until I pull the trigger....:)
10 yards -5 shots

If you have a Utah permit you can get 4 hours credit on the Illinois course. Makes class time only 4 hours and range time 8...though that 8 on the range watching the first-timers can sure drag!!!

Especially when one of the beginners can't seem to keep his hands to himself.
My qualifying target for Missouri CCW. You will note that two holes are off target. Both caused by a hand placed on my shoulder during firing my Model 19 S&W. We had to shoot 20 rounds of semi-auto (Colt .45 ACP) and 20 round of revolver (S&W Mod 19).
He was abruptly told that the next time he touched me a round would [miraculously] find him. Didn't see him for the rest of the day.

Yes...All off hand. The shot strings were timed, but there was ample time to do a good job.

That's good shooting. Those silhouette targets always bugged me in that I always felt the 10 ring is too low from where you would really want to hit a body in a defensive situation. I'd rather see the 10 ring moved up to center on the top of the first line below the 9.
This reminds me though I need to order more silhouette targets before spring.

Never thought I'd say/think it........but I've been giving serious consideration to carrying the 9mm and .380 !!!
I'm still of the belief a 40 or 45 can have an advantage in certain situations but I'm yet to find any factual data that supports a 45 is better than a 9.
Everything I've seen points to the fact shot placement predicts the outcome more than the diameter of the bullet.

Vince, I use to think it was all about mass too, that's why I carried a Sig 220 with 230gr hp's !!!
Here's a link to Greg Ellifritz's An Alternate Look at Handgun Stopping Power this is the study that was mentioned in the original post.

Bushy,
That is fine shooting in anybodies book! In spite of the guy patting you on the back in the middle of shots.
199 out of 200 is better than most LEO do in qualification. (in my experience)
