I have a Remington 722 in .308. I have been using factory ammo in it for the moment. I have 150 grain PPU, Federal, and Remington coreloks. When I fire the PPU ammo I cannot get the bold to open and eject the brass without the use of a rubber hammer. The federals im not sure about but the remington ammoihave no issues with. Anyone have any thoughts on what the issue might be? All the ammo feeds fine until fired.

I have found that PPU appears to be loaded hot. I won't use the stuff.

Stick with Remington, Federal and Winchester.

interesting...over here its weak...its the same ammo as highland...
for closer range work on large animals you wont find better load than 180grn winchester power points....
the 150grn load is pretty good to
if you want HOT load the superpreformance from Hornady is so hot I WONT use it.

It might be that the PPU brass is soft. If that's the case it will work better after about 5 reloads. I should submit that I use new PPU brass in my 257 Roberts (7mm necked down) and I haven't had any problems even up to maximum loads. I am using old data backed up with the Hodgdon paper manual from 2016. I have loaded from 45 grains to 50 grains of H414 under an 87 grain bullet. My latest Speer manual lists loads for +P from 42 to 46 grains of H414 in the +P Winchester case with the same bullet. The Winchester case holds about 10% less water than my PPU cases. The only modern case that is close to the PPU cases are the Remington cases and they hold an average of about 1/2 grain less although there is a lot of variations. The PPU had very little variation - so little that I didn't cull any of them. I just finished my tests for pressure with no pressure signs at all even with 50 grain loads. I found a couple of sweet spots and will work up a load for accuracy around them.

I’ve been using PPU factory .303 rounds in my Mk5 SMLE without any problems at all, and I reload the fired cases , again without any problems. As RePete said...they may be loaded a bit hot, but I haven’t noticed that or experienced the problems you are having. I’d persevere because the PPU brass has developed a very good reputation, and as Paul said...give them a couple of reloads and they should be good.

PPU has a problem? I didn't know that. Been reloading PPU for both the AR 10 and Browning BLR .308 for a couple of years now with no issues.

I haven't seen any problems either. I bought new unfired 7x57 cases and made them into 257 Roberts. They performed flawlessly so far.

tlo7mm is talking about factory ammo and not the brass being reloaded.

I've gone through a box of PPU in .243 & it was loaded significantly slower than anything else but no extraction issues.

UPDATE:

ok so I fired the ammo myself and for some reason the bolt doesn't open up without some extra effort when firing ppu factory loads. I got the gun from my dad and was going off what he and my oldest brother were saying was happening. Remington ammo and federal ammo both seem to have no issues.

I believe that I've been told at one time that there is a bit of a difference between .308 and 7.62 X 51 NATO. Maybe that's where the problem is. Take some measurements of the PPU and a Remington and see what you get.
