That's an interesting interlock system. It would take a true craftsman to carve those joints and some big lumber. I would want to add some waterproof glue just to make it air tight but I'm like that.

Yeah, I can't see any other way of getting the joints together without lateral cuts.

I’m going to hazard a guess at this being done by a Japanese craftsman carpenter. I’ve seen some videos on You Tube where they do amazing work, and often just with hand tools.

so you can explain how they put it together? I cann't... or this wood should act as a rubber... maybe it's me, but how can you get a big hard thing trough a much smaller entrance?
(unless it's in scenes that are not mentioned on this site Smile )

Each row of logs is placed over the one below it. It is like a fancy lap joint as far as the construction goes but it is a lot stronger once assembled.

what Im getting at is the horizontal join along sides SHOULD be visable....even the wood grain itself doesnt give clue as to where it is...

The "cuts" on the end of the logs are a super fancy 45degree angle, the logs slide together.

Here, this shows the concept, easier than explaining:

Thanks. That's beyond my knowledge. I think that's not the first time he made it, he must have a PhD in woodworking...

Nearly a lost art. Old Timers knew stuff for sure. What would be VERY interesting to me, is if all 4 corners are done this way. You can stick 3 corners together this way but not the 4th.

Someone either with alot of money hired someone extremely talented to build this, or the extremely talented person built his own home... either way, it was done by an extremely talented and PATIENT person.

Was this from Amish country?
