Hi there not sure if introductions is the done thing here but Ill do it anyway. I'm from new zealand been interested in firearms since childhood basically self taught as no one in family was interested in firearms except for my grandfathers brother but after coming back from the war the interest stopped. I try and hunt and shoot in competitions and have a few different cals I shoot....

Welcome aboard The Nut northdude…grab a beer and pull up a stump. Another member from the land of the long white cloud, and I assume that you are from the North Island from your tag. You will find a couple of other NZers on here…Radar from up north and Elvis from down south…both champion blokes. You will find the group here to be about the happiest and easiest to get along with Forum on the Net. Feel free to jump in with your knowledge any time or to ask a question as there is a wealth of knowledge in here. Oh yeah, and we take the p1ss outa one another on a regular basis…just ask me what happens when you go hunting and forget to take your rifle bolts…but it’s all good natured and never malicious. From whereabouts in Aussie do you originate mate? I’m originally from Sydney, but after a 26 yr stint in the Army settled in Brisbane.

I was born in maitland. Grew up in nw nsw tamworth was the closest big town that people have heard of mt tamarang to be precise

The army used to do a lot of exercises out our way and the airforce used to do a lot of low flying manovers out our way as well

Ah, the New England region…travelled through there many times, a lovely part of the country. No shortage of goat hunting around that area…our mate Gelan just might be familiar with that area as well.

I think you’ll find that a lot of the Army exercises in that area involved the Army Reserve (41 RNSWR are headquartered in Lismore). As for the Air Force…the Pilliga and Barrington Tops Ranges around that part of NSW offered great nap of the Earth flying opportunities.
