Bison Tagging and blood tests for bison. Just to give you an idea of how big they are, this male weighs around 3,000 lbs.

I’m not sure I would shoot this fella mate…he has magnificent bloodlines and has plenty of good breeding left in him. He would be the father of a great crop of calves and ultimately a very strong herd. But you are right, a bent stick and string wouldn’t be my choice either.

Vince, you got me wondering about the size of bison, found this:

"The heaviest wild bull ever recorded weighed 2,800 pounds (1,270 kg) and, in captivity, the largest bison weighed 3,801 pounds (1,724 kg). They can stand at 6 feet to the hump. Despite their massive size, they are incredibly agile able to run at speeds up to 40 mpg and jump 6 feet high from a standing position."

I've seen alot of bison... that picture while really cool... looks really strange. There is some perspective tricks going on here I think.

That "boy" is for real and is only standing there because he wants to. I'm sure he could move that pen if he desired. We were up close and personal with a couple of bull bison in Wind Caves National Park, South Dakota, last year. While on a hiking trail down a canyon, a bull came up the canyon our way so we retreated. Then coming out of the canyon we ran into another that grazed slowly back up by our truck. In the process, we came upon one of their "Dust Baths" where they roll in the grass to create a dust bowl to take care of flies bothering them. Huge!!!
