not hard to kill, just available and heck of alot of fun. we dont have many feral goats near by....and I have other rifles for deer....
the terminal results with 400grn hard cast with large flat front was interesting to say the least...it was just as if someone had used an oversized apple corer on animal and simply removed a cylindrical section of the body about an inch in diameter. will be very interesting to see if it has same effect on larger animal.

We use sticky pads or mousetraps to get rid of our rodents. I just figured that a .45-70 would be just a bit too much.

our bennets wallabies go up to 40kgs-100ish lb that would require a rather good sticky pad...they will grab a dog and give it heck of a hiding or kill it if not carefull.I have pelt here I shot years ago. its 6foot long and was cut off at neck. so if half is tail thats still 3foot long body plus head/neck. takes two fellas to chuck big fella like that over a fence/up onto truck deck.

If I remember correctly, Gelan developed a subsonic load using cast bullets (400gn ?) for the 45.70 that he was using to head shoot rabbits…quite accurate and very VERY effective.

Was in the range yesterday.

Made up a batch of loads and I reckon I finally found the IT load.

It is 330gn flat nose gas checked lead powered by 19.5gn of 2205, flies out at about 900fps and is quite reasonable in accuracy (3.5 inches in 100 meters)
It gives me a very gentle shove and is definitely not bone shaking.

I also try some of a tad heavier loads like 530gn lead on 40gn of 2206, at 1350fps it gives me a 2inch group at 100 meters.

I could be totally hooked to shooting this calibre. It is very versatile and absolutely fun to shoot Very Happy Maybe I should buy another one for me wife...

maybe???

The beauty of these is that the trajectory is very close to a 22LR, so I do not have to compensate too much for wabbits with either calibers.

well we went out for a wander in persisting rain this morning...I managed to shoot hole in hillside 3 times and removed cranial matter with the other 2 shots fired...and one of them wallabies was going full tilt across hillside and actually just inside cover when I fired...felt rather chuffed when saw I had removed half its head with my instinctive running shot..my mate fired his "new to him" .223 5 times for 5 clean killed wallabies. 3 he killed at once with 3 quick shots....great morning out even if we both ended up wet through to skin despite wearing wet weather gear...

Great work mate. You’ll understand (I hope) that I’m as jealous as buggery and green with envy, that you’ve been able to get out for a hunt.

Maaate…that is more than extremely appreciated. As much as I’d love to bring my own rifles, it is a real pain in the butt because it would mean me having to import them back into Aussie.
