I know on most hunting and firearm boards there is a long standing "code" of fatherhood that when a boy comes to a girls house its the fathers job to scare the living cr*p out of him and on gun forums it generally refers to cleaning guns when he is around. I just hear this song for the first time so I thought I'd share:
Quote:: |
The Declaration of Independence
Think I could tell you that first sentence
But then I’m lost
I can't begin to count the theories
I've had pounded in my head
That I forgot
I don't remember all that Spanish
Or the Gettysburg address
But there is one speech from high school
I'll never forget
(Chorus)
Come on in boy sit on down
And tell me about yourself
So you like my daughter do you now?
Yeah we think she's something else
She's her daddy's girl
Her momma's world
She deserves respect
That’s what she'll get
Ain’t it son?
Hey y'all run along and have some fun
I'll see you when you get back
Bet I’ll be up all night
Still cleanin' this gun
Well now that I’m a father
I’m scared to death one day my daughter
Is gonna find
That teenage boy I used to be
That seems to have just one thing on his mind
She’s growin' up so fast
It won't be long before
I’ll have to put the fear of god into
Some kid at the door
(Chorus)
Come on in boy sit on down
And tell me about yourself
So you like my daughter do you now?
Yeah we think she's something else
She's her daddy's girl
Her momma's world
She deserves respect
That’s what she'll get
Now ain't it son?
Y’all go out and have some fun
I'll see you when you get back
Probably be up all night
Still cleanin' this gun
Now it's all for show
Ain’t nobody gonna get hurt
It’s just a daddy thing
And hey, believe me, it works
(Chorus)
Come on in boy sit on down
And tell me about yourself
So you like my daughter do you now?
Yeah we think she's something else
She's her daddy's girl
Her momma's world
She deserves respect
That’s what she'll get
Now ain't it son?
Y’all run along and have a little fun
I'll see you when you get back
Probably be up all night
Still cleanin' this gun
Son, now y'all buckle up and have her back by te- let's say about nine...thirty.
Drive safe. |

My mom tells the story of when her and my aunt would bring home a new guy. My granfather would bring out about half his guns, 10 or so, and start cleaning them on the front steps. Normally about a half hour after the guy was to pick them up they would look out the front window and there would be my grandpa cleaning the guns humming to himself. The girls would go change clothes and go out and start helping him so he would come back in. When my mom and aunt found their persepetive husbands samething. This time when they checked my grandfather would be sitting there with the date cleaning guns and talking about hunting and fishing.
When I was in high school my father, 5'10" about 210, was outside one day working on his truck when one of the guys I liked was coming by, he noticed the back tire was low and was going to put a cinder block under it. Now this truck was a '67 F150 with 3/4 ton rear end with a FULL SLIDE IN CAMPER that was full of junk. He got the block reached down onto the barden bumper of the truck, lift it up and slide the block under it. There went dating in high school, by Monday the whole school knew and I became everyone's little sister.

hehehehhe my father in law, is 5'7 goes about 190ish, used to lift weights. had a scholorship to two colleges one for football one for wrestling, he blew his knee in senior year and didnt go, but when i started hanging around, i walked right in introed myself, and asked if i could help him on his r/c planes.. that sunk it right there... fast friends, now he calls to talk to me not his daughter.. I remember one day we were going over to his place, and got into a fight, she got out of car and huffed into the house, I looked at him and said "yer daughter can be such a bit@#" he laughed and said yeah well you got the nice one... hehehhehe

Morax,
Interesting 4 questions, I can answer "YES" (with capitals) to the first 3 but I've never rode a motorcycle. Is that wrong of me ??
I'm 6ft 2in and 210 pounds right now, guess I'm going to be scaring my daughters (once I have them) perspective boyfriends with alittle more questions then Morax, and plus I look well like me.
Poor girls they'll probably never have a real relationship till they move out.
