Gidday Dave, nice knives. The blades look like knapped flint? Now thats a dying art.

Cheers, Vince

hi vince, the blades are from rainbow obsidian, which is volcanic glass. they were made at his home here in woodland,ca. he also hunted the deer which he got the horns from. lotta craftsmanship ther for sure. Dave

OK, I wonder if they knap the glass the same way they knap flint.

Whichever, they are very nice looking knives.

Cheers, Vince

yes Vince it is the same technique.
lots of pressure and a skin to cover your leg with.
obsidian is very sharp and very strong material it flakes beautifully

beautiful knives, made the right way.
its an art indeed.
I was taught at 9 how to do flint and obisidian after visiting the Clovis area.
found my flint and sat down to learn.
my thinking was I could live totally off the land with confidence as I have now.
still have a few of the point I flaked for a scrapers of my skins.

My ancestors used to make knives the same way, but then we found we could get steel ones if we simply sold Canada to a bunch of Englishmen!

Sure....you got one to trade? I'll throw in a nice piece of real estate. I'm going to fly over to England, plant a flag and say I discovered it, then trade it for beads, blankets, iron axes, knives.... Very Happy

For that much the whiskey would have to be VERY GOOD or lots of it. Which is it? Smile

Well, I have been known to show a preference for the stuff and as far as quantity goes, can you imagine the Irish running out of whiskey? (whoops, ethnic slur, oh well they're my other ancestors, LOL...we slur a lot actually)
